What music they make

v3.0

An aristocrat/token deck with a vampire/lifegain subtheme. After all, vampires tend to be at their best when they're the ruling class.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS IS NOT A TRIBAL DECK. I don't aim to drop 30+ vampires. Edgar is stronger the more vampire spells you cast, yes, but he is a fine general on his own (in that he generates value from the command zone and when you do cast him, he's immediately ready to beat for five first strike damage). He's also not the only token generator in the deck and really, the tokens aren't there to stick around all that long. The goal is to get an engine of three parts going: token generators, sacrifice outlets and sacrifice payoff. Make a ton of minions, sac them to something like Viscera Seer while cards like Dictate of Erebos and Blood Artist provide the payoff.

So it's mainly about getting that combo engine going, but you can easily lean into the vampire subtheme for a scary, evasive creature-based victory. A lot of them have interesting abilities that keep them on the battlefield when everything else dies, or that straight up murder or steal your opponents' creatures while draining their strength.

When going for victory on the combat step, we're looking to capitalize on Edgar Markov's ability to make tokens as well as his ability to buff all vampires. He's got haste too so he can immediately start bodying. Back him up with the other combat-centric vampires. You might sac some tokens to Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter instead of to Viscera Seer, for example.

Get a boatload of mana through Black Market and Smothering Tithe, then cast your hand. You can also use that mana to give some poor soul -0/-bazillion with Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief, who then grows to epic proportions.

I took the C17 precon deck and steered away from Red a bit, going back to the more traditional W/B vampires for a midrange build that snowballs really neatly if you can just avoid being focused down in the first turns. You'll have ample opportunity to gain life, which is as much a buffer as it is a resource. Swinging in with a giant army of bloodsuckers is always money, but since being on the board means you register as a threat, it's often more beneficial to just drop a few aristocrats and profit off of the wars between other players.

Alternatively, put down Anointed Procession and Cordial Vampire, wail on people with tokens, sacrifice whatever gets blocked to force the extra damage through.

The deck features several avenues of protection, card draw, forcing damage through and a TON of removal. Play the political game, make allies, scare off any attackers with the threat of ruthless reprisal and strike when the opportunity presents itself.
