Jhoira brings threats from the past, present, and future as she takes the helm of this commander deck!

Jhoira is one of my favorite commanders, and I just knew I had to build a deck around her. She plays as you'd expect her to: Ramp into Jhoira of the Ghitu as fast as possible, suspend some fatties/extra turn cards/board wipes, and then beat face. We have some time counter shenanigans and a lot of control to make sure our plans go down smoothly and we can get our big CMC spells out sooner.

The Inevitables Show

Suspend is a fun mechanic. For just we can cast whatever we want in the deck, regardless of CMC, as long as we're willing to be patient. One important piece of text that often goes overlooked is that creatures with suspend gain haste when they're cast, allowing us to swing out the turn they come in. So the obvious choice is to run high-cmc, powerful creatures and cheat them into play. For an Izzet deck such as this, we're going to be running several Eldrazi, Karakens, and Dragons. I've curated my list of fatties as follows:

• Akroma, Angel of Fury : No need to morph her when we can just slap her down for 2 mana. Thankfully suspend gives haste, one ability that was noticably absent from the color-shifted Akroma. High power, evasion, trample, and firebreathing mean we're going to be hitting for a lot. And protection from white means that we won't have to worry about Swords to Plowshares .
• Artisan of Kozilek : A commander classic. Izzet has access to essentially no creature recursion, so the reanimate on cast is a nice touch. With 10 power and Annihilator 2, this guy makes a big impact.
• Blightsteel Colossus : The one-hit wonder! In my playgroup we play to 15 poison counters (I know infect is already a weak strategy but I convinced them to down it from 20), but putting people on a 2-turn clock with an indestructible trampler is really good.
• Colossal Whale : Perhaps a strange choice, but he's removal on a massive body and can often be unblockable.
• Deep-Sea Kraken : Jhoira is fun with this one. The triggered ability to remove counters still occurs even though we suspend it using Jhoira's ability, meaning we're going to get this hefty unblockable creature probably before our next upkeep.
• Desolation Twin : When one 10/10 just isn't enough.
• Detritivore : More useful as a form of removal, he can end up quite large if you have someone in your meta that runs a lot of fetches.
• Drakuseth, Maw of Flames : This creature is really versatile. It can pop important creatures, ping planeswalkers, or just add some damage to peoples' faces. All around a solid addition.
• Etali, Primal Storm : Though he doesn't have evasion, stealing threats from my opponents is just too fun to pass up.
• Hellkite Tyrant : I hope you didn't need those Arcane Signets, Sol Rings, and Mind Stones because they're mine now. Also a nifty alternate win-con.
• Inkwell Leviathan : Another fatty with built-in protection and evasion.
• Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur : Your opponents might need a helping hand after this.
• Kozilek, Butcher of Truth : Annihilator 4 is super brutal. And at 12 power, your opponents cant afford to sac their blockers.
• Stormbreath Dragon : Protection from white dodges a lot of removal. His monstrous can knock other control players down a peg.
• Tectonic Hellion : Sick of the green player ramping like crazy? No need to worry, because this will drag them back down to the rest of us. And since with Jhoira out we can pretty much cast anything for , ruining everyone's mana base isn't a big problem.
• Terror of the Peaks : Warstorm Surge on a body. With wings. And fangs.
• Tidespout Tyrant : Y'all don't mind if I bounce your lands, do you?
• Tyrant of Discord : Sometimes random effects can be fun, especially when it comes to decimating an opponent's field.
• Tyrant's Familliar: Since our commander is so cheap we can usually have it out to get the Lieutenant buff. Clears blockers for itself and other fatties.
• Void Winnower : I can't even.

Temporal Mastery Show

Jhoira's mastery of time can manifest itself in many different ways. One effect that I really enjoy (and others loathe) is extra turns. The other effect is manipulation of time counters. Both of these effects allow us to get our suspend cards out sooner and (hopefully) win.

• Expropriate : If you don't win after casting this, something went terribly wrong. You're guaranteed at least one extra turn, and at the worst you'll steal the biggest threat from each player and be able to untap to use them. Truly a 10/10 card.
• Fury Charm : Halves the suspend time on a card at instant speed.
• Jhoira's Timebug : Drops a turn sooner than Jhoira, so it'll be ready to tap when you have cards suspended. The timebug effectively halves the suspend time for one card at a time. This can also be used to set up two different cards to come out at the same time.
• Nexus of Fate : Instant-speed extra turn card. Not much hijinks to be had with it in this deck, but it's still a great card nonetheless.
• Paradox Haze : Double the upkeeps means double the time counters removed each turn.
• Temporal Manipulation : The standard for extra turn cards.
• Time Stretch : Why take just one extra turn when you could take two?
• Time Warp : Let's do it again!
