Ive never played commander but the idea of winning with just a 1drop 2/2 commander seems hilarious and awesome. Cool that it actually wins too

  • Thanks for the kind comment! The deck works better than it seems like it should. I think most opponents just don't expect to get rushed by a dog wearing boots, a helm, and carrying a bunch of weapons!

Junk_Heap reminds me of my Deathtouch Annoyance (Casual) and Deathtouch\First Strike\Vigilance Abuser decks where i'll have rats and snakes flying in the air with greaves on and pitchforks and claws haha. Dont look at them, theyre terrible decks xD

Hi, I'll leave a better comment soon once I've had a chance to take a closer look. In the meantime, I might suggest Entangler which I use in my own creatureless deck, Narset's One Woman Show.

  • Thanks for the suggestion on Entangler. The deck used to have a few defensive cards like that but they were removed because the deck's strategy is very aggressive and you want Isamaru, Hound of Konda to attack every turn, controlling the tempo of the game by keeping the opponent on their back foot. Entangler combined with Spirit Mantle, Holy Mantle, or Unquestioned Authority could stop my opponent from swinging at me, but I would have to take a turn off from attacking since I don't have a way to give Vigilance to Isamaru, Hound of Konda. I think there are some niche scenarios where Entangler could be useful, but not enough to warrant its inclusion. I am interested in hearing other suggestions you have!

Junk_Heap, this deck is both impressive and efficient. Your deck has this ultra-aggressive tempo where you just attack relentlessly. I like it, I can only imagine that it'd be nothing but frustrating to play against. In combination with your stax pieces you could utilizing something like Icy Manipulator? For 1v1, i'd hate to be your opponent. Good job!

  • Thank you for the kind words and suggestion! Icy Manipulator has always been one of the cards I have considered for the deck but never put in. Its obviously a very good card and has general utility; tapping our opponent's resources, tapping blockers for Isamaru, Hound of Konda, and tapping Winter Orb or Static Orb so that we can get a full untap step. It does cost 5 mana the turn its played to get any utility out of it and only hits one target. In the same role of resource denial Kismet may be better, but even then I am not sure what I would remove from the deck to make room for either of them. I think Icy Manipulator is a card worth testing out at some point.

  • Thank you for all of the suggestions! Regarding Brave the Sands, I like idea of granting Vigilance from a source other than an aura so that when Isamaru, Hound of Konda invariably dies we get to keep the effect going. This deck wants to swing with Isamaru, Hound of Konda each turn and deal more damage, though, so I think I prefer Always Watching instead. Its less defensive than Brave the Sands and has a higher CMC, but it also boosts Isamaru, Hound of Konda with more power and toughness. Dealing one additional damage may not seem like much, but it can make the difference between finishing the game and giving the opponent another turn. What do you think?

  • The fetchlands are run to thin the deck (I know its not much but every little bit helps) and for getting more utility from Scroll Rack when we do not have our Land Tax on the battlefield. Admittedly the fetchlands had more function when Sensei's Divining Top was still legal, but I think they are still worth keeping in for the opportunity cost they provide.

  • Ring of Thune and Sword of Vengeance have both been tried and Hero's Blade has been considered. Ring of Thune has a cheap cost but losses most of its utility, adding counters, when Isamaru, Hound of Konda dies; its a slower version of Ordeal of Heliod. Sword of Vengeance adds power and keywords we like but its just too expensive. I am likely to cast it and not equip it until the following turn. While that does sometimes happen with Sword of Fire and Ice and Sword of Feast and Famine those pieces of equipment are much more valuable. Hero's Blade got me excited when it was first spoiled bit I cooled to it after further review. It is only good if Isamaru, Hound of Konda dies; otherwise its another piece of equipment that is cast and then equipped on the following turn. I think that would be fair if it also added some evasion (Trample, Menace, or Flying) but as a straight power buff I can't find a slot for it.

Hero's Blade is a 2 drop with insurance, you pop it down if you have it and when Isamaru, Hound of Konda dies (which im sure he will) when you playy him again its a free equipment, then you can throw down whatever is in your hand without having to worry about blades equip, so if its the second time you cast the dog, thats a 5/4 for 3 also, your opponent will see it and think "if i kill the pup, he gets stronger"

though, i could see why you would choose otherwise, thats just my thoughts

  • You are correct about Hero's Blade being insurance against removal for Isamaru, Hound of Konda. Getting a 5/4 pup instead of a 2/2 pup for an ever increasing mana cost is beneficial. This deck struggles against Mono-Black Control decks which can regularly remove Isamaru, Hound of Konda from the battlefield and, depending on how the new meta shapes up, Hero's Blade may earn a spot. Consider it on my watch list!
