Inquisitor's FlailMTG Card: Inquisitor's Flail is much better on a creature that can't be blocked, otherwise it's a death sentence. Sure I'll block your 2/2 with my 1/1. We'll trade creatures, but not in your favor.

Silver-Inlaid DaggerMTG Card: Silver-Inlaid Dagger is much better priced, no drawbacks, and pretty much does the same thing for you because most of your creatures are 3 power or less anyway and that's all you'd gain from the flail anyway.

That being said. I like the idea of taking the G/W INN/DKA Humans shell and swapping all the green humans to red humans. And let your strength come from tokens. Because a single cast of Kessig MalcontentsMTG Card: Kessig Malcontents off the back of your Cavern of SoulsMTG Card: Cavern of Souls is a win condition in itself.

So, with that in mind. I like all your little drop humans. Doomed TravelerMTG Card: Doomed Traveler, Thalia, Guardian of ThrabenMTG Card: Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Fervent CatharMTG Card: Fervent Cathar, Somberwald VigilanteMTG Card: Somberwald Vigilante, Increasing DevotionMTG Card: Increasing Devotion, Thatcher RevoltMTG Card: Thatcher Revolt... See what I mean. Fifth turn, you've got 6-8 humans, you've already pounded them for 10-12, cast a Battle HymnMTG Card: Battle Hymn, swing, second main cast Kessig MalcontentsMTG Card: Kessig Malcontents. BAM!!!

And Thalia helps against spell heavy decks, like control, that would mess this deck anyway. Between Cavern of SoulsMTG Card: Cavern of Souls and Thalia, Guardian of ThrabenMTG Card: Thalia, Guardian of Thraben...

@MyRevival

I had becomes Wildblood PackMTG Card: Wildblood Pack then the flail will give much greater returns off of anything bonded to Silverblade PaladinMTG Card: Silverblade Paladin or Terror of Kruin PassMTG Card: Terror of Kruin Pass. The other issue with the dagger is that the werewolves I mentioned don't have Human as a type when flipped making it slightly less good. I can certainly see you're points about it though and I will definitely keep that in mind.

I haven't had an opportunity to test this out yet so I'm going to avoid making significant alterations to the decklist until I can. Barring something beyond phenomenal of course. Thanks for the suggestions!

I was attempting to find a way around the very strong Boros humans and after much thought and research found Torpor OrbMTG Card: Torpor Orb and Witchbane OrbMTG Card: Witchbane Orb. And the always popular Ratchet BombMTG Card: Ratchet Bomb will mess with your tokens.

So I had written that in relation to your sideboard, and then saw your sideboarded Manic VandalMTG Card: Manic Vandal. Kudos.

I like it. But I agree with MyRevival about the Inquisitor's FlailMTG Card: Inquisitor's Flails. Take them out. I think there are better things to add (even Butcher's CleaverMTG Card: Butcher's Cleaver.)

I think you should find a spot for the ultimate Boros angel. Move over Razia, here comes your less expensive and more wacky sister Gisela, Blade of GoldnightMTG Card: Gisela, Blade of Goldnight!

I think that 4x Cloudshifts is too many. You're aiming for your Kessig MalcontentsMTG Card: Kessig Malcontents mostly, occasionally whatever Zealous ConscriptsMTG Card: Zealous Conscripts bring over... I think main-boarding some Thalia, Guardian of ThrabenMTG Card: Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and Riders of GavonyMTG Card: Riders of Gavony and running 2x CloudshiftMTG Card: Cloudshift would generally be all you need. You're protecting your humans more with Thalia or the Riders to maximize your Malcontents more.

Just my 2.5 cents.

@NateDawgAU

The card:Butcher's Cleaver idea is likely a sound one. I'll tweak it and slap those in instead. I also have been thinking of throwing in a Gisela, Blade of Goldnight as a one of for the awesome and extreme times that could come of it.

In regards to the Cloudshift s I feel that four of them is actually better than it may seem. If I have four mana and a Fiend Hunter and a Cloudshift in my hand I can permanently exile a creature along with the creature he will naturally hold down after he re-enters the battlefield. It lets me dodge any instant speed removal, lets me reset Soulbond on the Silverblade Paladin s, and lets me get more counters on my Champion of the Parish es in addition to the things you mentioned.

Your point about mainboarding Thalia, Guardian of Thraben or Riders of Gavony is entirely fair. I had actually had the Riders in the mainboard until someone suggested I move them out. If I were going to mainboard them, in lieu of removing Cloudshift , what would you suggest?

Thanks for your suggestions, they are greatly appreciated!

Try out Lightning Mauler in here. You can attack for 8 on turn 3 with a Silverblade Paladin soulbonded to it, and after that, you can use Cloudshift to give other creatures haste.

@Undead_Warrior

That is a pretty snazzy idea. I may just give that a shot.

With Riders of Gavony , how often do you go up against tribal decks? It's a decent 3/3 vigilance at four, so I like it even if you can't find a really good tribe to protect against. I like the idea that you can chump block a titan with them out, and not even lose your creatures though. That's no small feat.

Dritz says... #9

@MyRevival

While it is true that barring Humans as a fairly common type there isn't a whole lot of shared typing there is still a fair bit of overlay with decks frequently having multiples of Warriors, Druids, Wolves, Spirits, and that sort of thing. Even if I can only neuter half of their attackers and blockers accomplishing that and getting a 3/3 Vigilance out of the bargain seems pretty good to me.

Examples of influential creatures sharing a type:

Devil--Vexing DevilMTG Card: Vexing Devil--HellriderMTG Card: Hellrider

Warrior--Champion of Lambholt MTG Card: Champion of Lambholt --Hamlet CaptainMTG Card: Hamlet Captain--Wolfir AvengerMTG Card: Wolfir Avenger--Wolfir SilverheartMTG Card: Wolfir Silverheart--Zealous ConscriptsMTG Card: Zealous Conscripts

Soldier--Diregraf CaptainMTG Card: Diregraf Captain--Stromkirk CaptainMTG Card: Stromkirk Captain--Drogskol CaptainMTG Card: Drogskol Captain--Etched ChampionMTG Card: Etched Champion--Gideon's LawkeeperMTG Card: Gideon's Lawkeeper--Champion of the ParishMTG Card: Champion of the Parish--Elgaud ShieldmateMTG Card: Elgaud Shieldmate--Elite InquisitorMTG Card: Elite Inquisitor

Human--Snapcaster MageMTG Card: Snapcaster Mage--Hero of BladeholdMTG Card: Hero of Bladehold--Hero of Oxid RidgeMTG Card: Hero of Oxid Ridge--Mirran CrusaderMTG Card: Mirran Crusader--Et cetera, et cetera.

Good call. And that was an honest question. I've only just recently decided to jump into standard. And I'm definitely a fan of the Riders of Gavony , took me to a top eight finish at the prerelease.

alxzy2 says... #11

dont forget, with Riders of Gavony you can name giant and protect yourself from some red green ramp deck titan combos (at least a smidgen)

May 25, 2012 9:45 a.m.

Dritz says... #13

@alxzy2

That is indeed helpful. If I name Giant Inferno Titan can only bolt me with its ability and its firebreathing is useless. haha

@MyRevival

The area I've played with the most has mostly used tribal spirits and tribal werewolves if they went for that sort of thing.

i did a fast 3 round playtesting vs your deck with my delver deck:

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/bu-runechanter/

I knew i had a hard matchup, cuz i tend to strugle vs the faster decks.

first game:

we raced, you won. final score 0-4.. not much to say about this game, your deck is just faster than mine.

second game:

we raced, i won. I got some good draws, and i was able to take out your Riders of Gavony with a blocking Mindshrieker who used its ability to turn a Doom Blade .

score ended 0-2, and i feel i got lucky.

thrid game:

I might aswell not have been here. Everytime i pulled a sorcery or an instant, my delver was exiled. You mulliganed to 5, but your draws was perfect, and i never got anything done. Its funny, cuz this was the round i was shure i would win, when i looked at your starting hand.

another great move your deck did, was to throw down a Champion of the Parish boosted with card:Slayers' Stronghold and then a Silverblade Paladin in the same turn.

that was instant death since i was @ 11 life and you had 2 human tokens on the table.

final score 19-0.

this is the first out of 5 decks i have playtested against tonight i havent rolled over, just thought it was worth mentioning.

i know white/red humans are a hard matchup for me, and if anyone have any ideas on how to improove my gameplay vs decks like this, i would be very happy to hear them... im gonna try Torpor Orb in the sideboard, as ''MyRevival'' talked about, but i dont think it will do the trick tbh.

3 card:Faith's Shield seems like alot to me, i might cut 1, but thats proberly the only thing i would change in this deck.

sry for bad gramma, and thx for the beating.

MyRevival says... #15

The other strong tool against decks like this is Day of Judgment . But yeah, other than that, the Boros Human archetype just has a way of beating up control decks and taking their lunch money.

why not mirran crusader for anti zombie and werewolf or primeval plus double strikeinstagator gang could be switched out with it

May 27, 2012 7:35 p.m.

cver says... #17

i just play tested your deck against my red white humans deck and in every game you didn't play anything until turn three and i beat you by turn 5 each time. you should add in more one drops and take out the fervent cathar and the riders of gavony for more beatdown. i suggest a pillar of flame for more removal.

May 27, 2012 7:55 p.m.

Dritz says... #18

@Dirt3pz Thanks for the play-test. I definitely appreciate it. My top suggestion for ways to deal with this deck is basically to sideboard in more spot removal than might seem reasonable at first. Most of my creatures are at least equivalently costed with most removal so after not so very long you will have a boat load of instants and such to pump up your card:Runechanter's Pikes and I'll be about out of steam. Obviously it isn't perfect as I have Cloudshift s but I would prefer to use them on Kessig Malcontents and the like rather than having to drop them on every creature I play. Just my two cents, thanks again!

@cver Eh, I don't have Fervent Cathar in the deck. Also, while I'm not impuning your deck's strength if I didn't play a single Champion of the Parish or Gather the Townsfolk or Lightning Mauler until turn three then I am going to go with some freakishly bad luck on my deck's half. Also, I already have three Pillar of Flame s in the deck. Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it.

@MyRevival Yeah, anything like Day of Judgment , Blasphemous Act or card:Black Sun's Zenith is likely going to make my day an unhappy one.

Dritz says... #19

@cver Oh, I also don't have Mirran Crusader in here as I am trying not to include any Scars of Mirrodin goodies even though I would like to. The major potential exception is Hero of Oxid Ridge as I already own a full playset of him.

Add a Silverblade Paladin

please check out and +1 my standard deck

deck:standard-the-art-of-blood

June 2, 2012 8:15 p.m.

cver says... #21

you should add more lightning maulers and doomed travelers and maybe less strongholds i've found that there very hard to use cus your spending mana on getting lots of guys out early and by the time its late game you shouldn't be still paying if its actually a good aggro. so may be only 2 of. Cool deck though +1

June 4, 2012 12:59 p.m.

Drop the Instigator Gang  Flip for either Hero of Bladehold , Hero of Oxid Ridge , or Hellrider . They are all better options for your deck.

June 6, 2012 1:53 p.m.

Dritz says... #23

@somethingcreative424

I'm trying not to dilute the Human tribal aspect in relation to their interaction with Kessig Malcontents which is why I haven't added Hellrider . I do have a full playset of Hero of Oxid Ridge which I could include though. Anyone else have any ideas on the matter?

This deck is insane. Usually (hypothetical) turn 3-4 kills, only thing I'd really change would be Pillar of Flame(you said no Scars, so maybe Forge Devil/Bonfire/Thunderbolt), and Butcher's Cleaver for bladed bracers(Tormetor's Trident if I was feeling lucky).

it's a shame you can't equip card:Butcher's Cleaver to the Kessig Malcontents in response to it's trigger! Brass Squire , anyone? xD i absolutely love the deck. i feel like i've never once seen card:Slayers' Stronghold, and will begin using that in my builds asap :P i know the hardest thing to balance with an aggro deck like this is maintaining presence if you get forced into late game, and that's what i love about card:Butcher's Cleaver. Nearheath Pilgrim should be seriously considered for mainboard, imho; that guy does wonders. maybe -1 Cloudshift , potentially one other thing? even -1 land might be permissable, with a low curve like this, for +2 Nearheath Pilgrim in the main. just my two cents, seriously try it out, even if all he does is chump block T2 after pumping your Champion of the Parish , you net 2 life and kill an attacker! seems good to me ;) +1 fo sho
