“They say nothing lasts forever. I say everything lasts forever, just not in the form you may be accustomed to.” -Vraska

~

Far beneath the impossibly high, sprawling towers of Ravnica, the shunned members of the Golgari Swarm slither through shadow and soil. The Swarm welcomes all who struggle find a place in the world above- from the most diminutive insects to to the most formidable trolls. Every life can find purpose in unending ranks of the the Golgari and serve it in death; Nothing is without worth in the Swarm. The denizens of the Undercity now embrace a majesty who epitomizes this notion, the scorned Gorgon Vraska.

Despite Vraska's bewitching ascension to the throne, below the surface the Swarm twists and contorts with dissension. From the deepest depths of the Golgari Swarm, the high priestess Izoni pulls political strings to weave her own web of control. The Golgari are plotting an uprising, and aim to drag their opposition down into their kingdom of rot.

Unearth and Unleash:

  1. This deck thrives off death: the more creatures in your graveyard, the more potent certain cards like Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord will become. Cards with "Undergrowth" (Hatchery Spider, Lotleth Giant, etc.) quickly gain strength and utility too. Don't be afraid to lose weak creatures-- in fact their death usually ensures there's a bigger, badder creature on the way!

  2. Inundate your graveyard with creatures and make it worth foraging through. Don't just rely on the natural flow of losing creatures through sacrificing and combat; cards with "Dredge" (Golgari Thug, Nightmare Void, etc.) can quickly fill it for you and other cards like Buried Alive even let you decide exactly how to fill it. By utilizing cards like Vigor Mortis your graveyard becomes like your second hand.

  3. Izoni, Thousand-Eyed brings with her an entire swarm when cast. This ability is most useful late game once you've been able to really develop your graveyard. Make full use of her insect army by powering them up with Creakwood Liege or by recurring her effect (return her to your hand with cards like Invasive Species or Sanctum of Eternity and then recast her) to create an insurmountable field.

  4. The Plansewalkers support the go-wide strategy, with both Vraska, Golgari Queen and Vraska, Regal Gorgon having their ultimate skills reward you for having many creatures on the field. Both cards partner well with Izoni-- her insects may be small but your opponents can't block the whole swarm!

  5. Lands will inevitably be milled away as your graveyard starts to fill up. Luckily the deck has some workarounds, with cards like Deathrite Shaman, Glowspore Shaman, and Life from the Loam. Molderhulk also combos well with Memorial to Folly.
