This is an attempt to build a Bolas-themed deck with spells and minions befitting the Tyrant of Worlds. The goal is a deck that (1) has references to Bolas and (2) has spells the Elder Dragon might use himself. Originally a budget build with multiplayer in mind.

  • The Horned One: Nicol Bolas appears in three incarnations: Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, Nicol Bolas, the Deceiver, and Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh. With enough mana, the Forever Serpent can enter the battle and if he's left to do what he wants, he can eventually turn the tide of battle to his favor - and even end the game, loyalty permitting.

  • Agents of the Horned One: Throughout the Multiverse, Bolas has made many minions. Bolas manipulates his pawns from the background to do his bidding, from gods, dragons, and demons to the more humble disciples, viziers, and shamans. Even other Planeswalkers serve as his agents.

  • Manipulating the Mind and Body: Bolas's signature ability is shattering someone's mind with a mere touch. Mind Shatter, Syphon Mind, and Wit's End represent this power. He can also manipulate minds if he's short of minions with Control Magic, Reins of Power, and Slave of Bolas. The undead can also be of service; summoning a Sepulchral Primordial gives him access to his opponents' fallen creatures.

  • Thinking Ahead: Bolas has lived for millennia, and has access to multiple lifetimes' worth of knowledge. He can Ponder and Brainstorm for answers, or perhaps recall important spells with Mystic Retrieval. A simple deal with a Bloodgift Demon can be beneficial, offering Bolas new spells or creating a contract with someone else for their assistance.

  • Untouchable: Bolas can dominate in a battle of wits. While Disdainful Stroke simply negates big spells, spells like Insidious Will, Desertion and Soul Manipulation offer more utility. Propaganda, Dissipation Field and Blood Reckoning sets up an environment where his opponents will want to touch him less, leaving him free to scheme as he wishes. To acquire: No Mercy

  • Ruin Unending: Bolas's arsenal of spells isn't short of devastating ones that leave opponents struggling just to survive another moment. Crux of Fate and Life's Finale can wipe the board clean, with the former leaving you with your draconic servants. Killing Wave and Torment of Hailfire force his opponents to make choices only he can benefit. Cyclonic Rift and Vandalblast are one-sided boardwipes. Of course, one cannot leave out Dark Intimations and Bolas's Cruel Ultimatum for destabilizing an opponent of his choice.
