SUMMARY
A sweet selesnya ramp deck utilizing
Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar
as the pay-off. Multani is very underrated right now. It is a recurring threat that must be exiled and it's power and toughness are based on not only lands in play, but lands in the graveyard as well. With this in mind,
Scapeshift
will be a synergistic ramping play rather than a single card combo as it is in Modern. It will be used to grow our Multani and ramp into an avalanche of lands later in the game using
Crucible of Worlds
as well as
The Mending of Dominaria
. While we ramp, our goal is not only to cast huge creatures early, but also to destroy the opponent's lands with a one-sided
Armageddon
.
If we have
Remorseful Cleric
in play, we can sacrifice it after we play
Fall of the Thran
which will gain us a huge advantage and may win the game right then and there. We also play 2
The Mending of Dominaria
so that all those lands in our graveyard can come back into play, not to mention refilling our hand with creatures that our opponent destroyed or that we put there with
Merfolk Branchwalker
The
Shalai, Voice of Plenty
is there to protect our Multani and our Remorseful Cleric, and since we are ramping into lots of mana, her pump ability is a great mana-sink in the late-game.
MANA DORKS and RAMP
We play all 4
Llanowar Elves
as well as 3
Dryad Greenseeker
which survives a
Moment of Craving
,
Golden Demise
as well as a
Shock
and can block lots of small aggressive creatures and add lands into our hand. The greenseeker synergy with
Wayward Swordtooth
allows us to play only 23 lands. We are using
Treasure Map
to first manipulate our draws and then eventually flip and ramp. 3 copies of
Wayward Swordtooth
to ramp with a big threat and blocker as early as turn 4. So that is our early game plan.
GAS
To keep our hand from being depleted in the late game, we have 2 copies of
Memorial to Unity
, which can be recurred from our graveyard with
Crucible of Worlds
or
The Mending of Dominaria
. 1 copy of
Arch of Orazca
for more fuel. These two should be searched up with our
Scapeshift
. We use 2
Beast Whisperer
s for straight up card draw and 2
Merfolk Branchwalker
s for the nice synergy with our swordtooth to play that extra land. With Branchwalker, we don't mind sending creatures to our graveyard because we can get them back with
The Mending of Dominaria
. This card-advantage suite works pretty well, and we usually have plenty of gas in the tank. We also run 3
Treasure Map
s to add a land for our Multani, and it provides non-land mana production for our post-fall of thran. We have one copy of
Triumph of Gerrard
which will usually pump our Multani or Wayward Swordtooth, eventually giving it lifelink and flying for a big swing.
REMOVAL
Seal Away
is our early answer to surviving an aggressive start. There are three copies of
Ixalan's Binding
in the sideboard for dealing with planeswalkers and problem creatures. And we have a total of 5 sweepers in the board as well.
SIDEBOARD
Baird, Steward of Argive
is a great way to neuter swarm-style creature decks, especially if we can play
Fall of the Thran
with him on the battlefield. He serves a similar roll to
Ensnaring Bridge
, except it's one-sided in our advantage.
Tocatli Honor Guard
comes in for Golgari.
Settle the Wreckage
and
Cleansing Nova
as sweepers against swarming aggressive decks like GW tokens, golgari and RW aggro.
You will be surprised how Multani outclasses a
Doom Whisperer
or even a
Crackling Drake
. This deck is very fun to play. I'm not sure there is a better feeling in magic than slamming a
Fall of the Thran
with a
The Mending of Dominaria
on the battlefield, followed by sacrificing a
Remorseful Cleric
: Bulldoze your board.
Suggestions are welcome. Lemme know what you think!
