Nicol Bolas, the most powerful planeswalker in the world of MTG. He is the oldest living thing ever now. And with that time alive he spent the majority of it learning and studying, as most elder dragons do.

With his touch alone, Nicol Bolas causes all coherent thought to cease, which will be the theme of this deck. This deck is meant to be powerful and controlling by forcing the opponents to loose their resources faster than they can recover, aka force them to discard their hands. I have a lot of wheel and archivist effects that are fantastic in the deck but I need more control in the deck.

The best way to help me out is with a lot of discard hate/graveyard hate so that no one can recover their madness.

This deck needs help. I will be glad to hear your thoughts on it. This evil character deserves an equally evil play style.

Best combos I've ever seen with Nicol Bolas is the Dragon Tempest, Electropotence, Pandemonium, or Warstorm Surge combo. Play Nicol Bolas, have him immediately deal damage and wipe your opponent's hand without the need of combat. This also helps a few of your other damage dorks that don't require combat.

Out of these, I highly recommend Dragon Tempest and Warstorm Surge. You could also run a Panharmonicon if you will be using this in pods, so you can wipe 2 hands at once.

Lastly, I'd like to suggest Mizzix of the Izmagnus. Your Instant and Sorcery CMCs are all over the place. This guy could help make them become a lot more reliable. You could also then add in more instants and sorceries to protect your board like many of the counterspells and straight removal.

Nice. Didn't think about that. I'm trying to run uncounterable counterspells like Overwhelming Denial, Disallow, and the likes. An AEtherize would help too.

Anything else I need to include?

If you wanna use Cabal Coffers i advise you to put Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and you could replace Crosis's Catacombs with Command Tower.I didn't like Dictate of Erebos in this deck.. you play only 12 creatures! The same for Warped Devotion, you don't have enough "Boomerang" to take advantage from it.Gem of Becoming don't help you with ramp like Burnished Hart in my opinion.Dark Intimations with only a Bolas planeswalker is useless.. you could replace it with Crux of Fate, it has more sense in this deck.And.. where is Sangromancer ? it is strictly forbidden not put it in this deck ahahah xD

Bolas makes for a great thematic deck.My main advice is to remove both Izzet Signet and Dimir Signet for Commander's Sphere and Darksteel Ingot if you have them.

I walked the same path, but with a focus on discard and came up with this: Bow to Bolas

fabiomarley thanks for the advice. This deck is still in the "beta phase" since I just made it yesterday. I'll be sure to consider my options with these.

Thank you for the help.

Thank you both for the offers and helpful advice. I won't build this deck until I can iron out all the kinks in it.

I'm trying to find more ways to protect myself from being hit since the average CMC of my deck is about 4-5 and with very little ramp that is not a good way to start. Especially when Bolas himself costs 8 mana and with an upkeep cost! The Burnished Hart and the Gem of Becoming both help out with the land issue and be deck thinners. And if I were to make it more discard heavy I would add a Crucible of Worlds in there so I won't be hindered so badly.

The entire theme of this deck is madness, which is the lack of a hand in the mtg community. So if I were to do that I would have great pleasure in having everyone helping me make this deck into such a powerful and flavorful ode to Bolas, the biggest, baddest, and strongest planeswalker! w

here's a few other wheel effects to consider Wheel of Fate, Memory Jar, Dark Deal, Chandra Ablaze all decent cards and makes things more chaotic.

No Mercy is a good way to ward off attacks.

maybe some more sweepers Toxic Deluge is one of my favorite black ones besides Damnation

Also what about some ways to protect Bolas maybe Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves plus the haste is nice.

Oh and since Bolas has a high CMC I'd run some more ramp Thran Dynamo, Gilded Lotus Commander's Sphere and Darksteel Ingot are all good options Mana Crypt is good yet pricey.

Have fun building the deck I can't wait to see it fleshed out, seems like a fun idea! +1

Thanks for the help. I completely forgot about the shoes. Thanks for reminding me. And the gilded lotus is perfect for a mana needing deck. I've added Sheoldred, Whispering One for some more control and recursion effects.

Also, I'm trying to make myself harder to hit and harder to kill with protection cards like Propaganda, counterspells, bounce spells, board wipes, the likes.

Thank you for your opinion, I appreciate the help greatly. Thank you. w

Not really our prime choice for budget, but Chains of Mephistopheles mills out your opponent as well as getting rid of any topdecking power they have. You can combo this with Necropotence to make it so you get an insane card advantage whilst still being under the effect of Chains. Dark Ritual may just be a one time thing, but gives you a nice boost in mana that can lead to thing being played on turn 1 that definitely should never be played on turn 1.

Workman4137 says... #10

Those chains will help greatly, as does necropotence. But I run very little life gain in the deck so more time than not I will probably kill myself with it.

It'll go great with a deck like Karlov of the Ghost Council! But it's not what I'm going to be using.

Thanks for the tip though. :3

I think running Dragon mage could be useful because you can force your opponents to keep discarding their hands and starting from scratch.

April 4, 2017 10:58 a.m.

If you're looking for a easy way to exile graveyards swap out a swamp for Bojuka Bog, free exile with no downside or real change to the deck (except it enters tapped).

April 21, 2017 3:14 p.m.

Tormod's Crypt could help a bit.

May 3, 2017 5:10 p.m.

Malfegor is powerful if you don't mind discarding your hand.

May 3, 2017 5:13 p.m.

Megrim should be here also.

May 3, 2017 5:14 p.m.

Oops, sorry. Didn't see it in the list. :D

May 3, 2017 5:15 p.m.

Workman4137 says... #17

Wicked_N_Irish Malfegor looks like a lot of fun in rakdos, but it isn't what the entire theme of the deck is about: it's control heavy focusing on making our opponents suffer, top decking for the rest of the game while we force them to get rid of whatever card draw they have. It's awesome, same with Tormod'a crypt, but neither do very much control in the form of makind topdeckers.

Thanks for the advice though.

From what I have gathered, the deck seems to not only be flavorful but well put together, one thing I may consider is Grave Pact since there doesn't seem to be anything to protect your creatures with, at least with this on a multiplayer perspective MAY shy players away from killing SOME of your creatures. Even without it or another way of protection, the deck is very well done, bravo to you sir.

Imho I would suggest a bit more straight up removal, and use the black aspect of control to its full power with cards like Terminate, otherwise very good. As for individual cards, Sedraxis Specter, Blightning, Rakdos's Return, and Transgress the Mind. Thoughtseize if you can afford it. +1 from me!

Workman4137 says... #24

jboss1642 I've been thinking about adding cards that will help deal with a lot of threats. I've been considering the original Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker as a form of removal on a stick. However it increased my already high mana curve beyond compare.

To tell you the truth, I find one-trick cards that deal with single card removal to be too unreliable for my tastes. As for Sedraxis Specter, it has to connect to really do something. I'll keep it in mind, as I did with Crosis, the Purger. I'll keep them as sideboard options. Until then, I'm still wondering what to remove and add. I'm considering Keranos, God of Storms since he is a pseudo draw engine.

Thank you for your thoughts. w

I would say run Counterspell instead of Disallow I don't know what you should take out for it but Damnation is a great way to clear the board for your color selection

July 17, 2017 7 p.m.

Workman4137 says... #26

xander11 I keep disallow for the same reason you would keep Crux of Fate, the siege cards, and Deadeye Navigator: the versatility. You never know if someone activates an ability, like shaman of the forgotten ways(for some reason it won't recognize the card here), or even have something scary like Bruna, Light of Alabaster come flying at you.

Damnation is fantastic. I need good destroy cards. I'll put a pin in it and think about it for later use.

this deck looks fun. i would add Trophy Mage and to fish for Chromatic Lantern or any of your rocks and being so creature heavy i would add Mairsil, the Pretender for her effects i would also try to creatures with with manna abilities or tap effects to benefit from Mairsil, the Pretender. i would also invest in better lands and every time i see multi color decks i tell the player to add at least $1000 in land. Its the only way to make things work right and fast just like you want.

September 6, 2017 10 p.m.

Workman4137 says... #28

Mairsil, the Pretender is a card I really find undesirable because of that once a turn clause. If he just uses that ability once, he becomes useless. I can see his ability to combo but I don't find him as enjoyable as others.

A Trophy Mage would be great since I have some laying about. I could put in the Crucible of Worlds for all my windfall effects or other awesome 3 drop artifacts. Thanks for the advice Durgeddin it helps.
