The Eternal Reign of Rashmi (Budget)

Simic has been one of my top guilds ever since Gatecrash pre-release. The ramp and the combos make my little Johnny heart sing. However, I wasn't able to find a Simic commander that enabled the kind of combo shenanigans I wanted until Kaladesh (they were all too linear). Luckily, Rashmi, Eternities Crafter is a one-card engine, literally enabling any strategy and dialing up the synergy. I've built most of this deck in paper, and it is brutal, dismantling everything from Karador to Scion of the Ur-Dragon to Bruna Voltron...and that's without Future Sight. Let me break down how the deck works:

Topdeck manipulation is key to making Rashmi effective. Future Sight, Hua Tuo, Honored Physician, Descendant of Soramaro, Garruk's Horde, Moonring Island, Nulltread Gargantuan, Crystal Ball, Sigiled Starfish, Into the Wilds and others ensure that our topdeck is what we want. The topdeck manipulation is gold for three reasons: 1) we can be more likely to get free casts, 2) we have knowledge of what cost we need from our hand to trigger Rashmi's free cast, and 3) topdeck quality improves.

Then, lots of flash and instants let us trigger Rashmi multiple times per round. Clashing (oddly) works great with all of our topdeck manipulation, while X-costed spells count as their full cost on the stack (letting us cast pretty much anything). Yeva, Nature's Herald and Alchemist's Refuge are our favorite cards in this regard.

I know you might be thinking that I've got way too many basic lands. However, Rashmi is super easy to cast with just two colored mana symbols, and once she's triggered a couple times, you'll never miss another land drop.

We use all of Rashmi's pure value to support a +1/+1 counter theme.

Skyship Plunderer, Master Biomancer, Gyre Sage, Ridgescale Tusker, proliferate, Fathom Mage...everybody loves a good +1/+1 counter, or a zillion of them.

In the meantime, control is used to protect our combos. UG is one of the best combos for granting hexproof to key combo pieces, countering board wipes, and drawing plenty of fuel. This deck reaches a critical mass around T7-9 where you're drawing enough countermagic and control to stop anything your opponent throws at you.

Win conditions currently are Champion of Lambholt, Crowned Ceratok, Cultivator of Blades, Biomass Mutation, Invert the Skies, Gridlock, and pure value.

Thanks for checking out the deck! All suggestions and feedback are welcome! Cheers!
