Welcome, Agents of House Dimir

Why Choose Circu?

In the ever-shifting meta of the commander format, it's important to not only employ powerful tactics, but also have flexible strategies. To me, Circu is the perfect example of this philosophy: not only can he employ powerful storm staples to speed up your turns and dig deeper into your library, but he also grants you information based on his exiling ability in addition to disabling these cards from all of your opponents.

You May Like This Deck If:

  • You don't care for a heavy creature board on your side.
  • You enjoy using cards not commonly seen at most EDH tables.
  • You like being able to switch between strategies.
  • You understand most of the combos used.

You May Not Like This Deck If:

  • Controlling your opponent's draws like Lantern Control irritates you.
  • You enjoy creature-heavy strategies.
  • Drawing the game out bores you.
  • Combo plays disinterest or heavily confuse you.

  • Ad Nauseam is an insanely potent draw spell at instant speed. The best time to use this card is during the End Phase of the player who goes just before your turn. Ideally, you life should be about 26 or 27 at the lowest when casting this card, and I wouldn't recommend going below 10 life unless you can win next turn.
  • Circu, Dimir Lobotomist can hit your own deck to set up Laboratory Maniac if you have it in hand and can cast infinite spells. Additionally, Circu's third ability only affects all opponents, so you're free to play any staples you have in your hand that he stole from someone else, just don't forget that if he dies or is flickered that he 'forgets' what was previously exiled.

  • Timetwister unfortunately has no realistic replacement EDH. The closest cards are not worthwile to run since Day's Undoing ends your turn on the spot, Commit // Memory is far too expensive at six mana and REALLY hurts when Ad Nauseam reveals it, and Time Sprial has the same issue as Memory.
  • Transmute Artifact suffers the same problem that Timetwister does. I honestly would just find alternative cards to play instead of trying to replace them with worse versions.
  • Mana rocks actually have a few decent alternatives. Your best bets are Mind Stone, Prismatic Lens, and Basalt Monolith.
  • Yawgmoth's Will can be replaced by Magus of the Will if you're fine with it being slower and hoping it doesn't die to removal.
  • Chains of Mephistopeles has the same issues as Timetwister and Transmute Artifact, but Psychic Surgery can be hilarious in the right circumstances.
