Maybeboard

Enchantment (1)

My best attempt at a curse deck!

The deck is really meant to be a toolbox of curses. Many curses have a niche role in stopping a lot of strategies. So the deck comes with plenty of tutors (the ones that I can afford) along with a couple of ways to draw cards to hopefully find an answer to the board state and buy yourself some time to build a defense and let the curses drain out the opponent.

Along with the toolbox nature of the deck, there are A LOT of board wipes. Since there are so few creatures in this deck, they will almost always hurt your opponent more than yourself. This is ultimately to buy more time for yourself to get more curses out.

There are two ways to play this deck depending on how many opponents are in the game. If you find yourself in a 1v1 with this deck, the best curse to tutor up will be Curse of Misfortune. This curse is quintessential in cheating into play the real game winning curses and shutting down your opponent.

In a multiplayer game though, this deck is going to serve a different role. It becomes more of a political deck that you'll have to use to buy good karma at the table. It's very hard for this deck to win against multiple opponents, so the goal is to essentially keep everyone else in check and make the field even and prevent someone from going off. The hope is to be one of the last players around to then focus your curse strategy on the last player, but usually by then their board state might be too well built to win. But in that setting I prefer the politics so I'm usually not in it to win.

So Why these two generals? Mostly for the colors, but they can become real threats if left unchecked and could possibly steal a game away.

Utility curses against different strategies:

1)Storm/Spell Slinger- Curse of Exhaustion
2)Mid Range/Aggro- Cruel Reality, Torment of Scarabs, and Overwhelming Splendor
3)Tokens- Curse of Death's Hold, Trespasser's Curse
4)Control- Curse of Echoes, Curse of the Nightly Hunt
5)Lifegain- Although not technically curses, Erebos, God of the Dead and Tainted Remedy will shut them down

Game winning Curses: Overwhelming Splendor, Cruel Reality, Curse of Thirst, Curse of Misfortunes, and Curse of Bloodletting.

Two really notable interactions in this deck are Solemnity+Phyrexian Unlife for never losing and Traumatize+Fraying Sanity for an instant victory.
