Minotaurs? Why, yes! Minotaurs!

The wonderful world of tribal decks in Standard makes way past just Zombies and Cats.

This deck is centralized around Neheb, the Worthy and focuses on keeping creatures on board, a decent amount of removal, and some mean, mean aggro.

Build up the rough and tough Cattle of Battle and stampede across any foe you encounter!

LANDS:

  • Keeping a usable and stable mana base was foremost on the list, so I opted for a round number of 20 for simplicity.
  • Dual lands Canyon Slough, Cinder Barrens, Smoldering Marsh to make the available color choice open while still having the ability to cycle if you start to get drowned in lands.

CREATURES:

  • Neheb, the Worthy as the build around. Keep hand size low and this guy can bring the thunder.
  • Bloodrage Brawler a quick 2-drop that packs a punch, granted the discard may not always play into favor depending on what you currently hold.
  • Ahn-Crop Crasher a nice haste creature, the exert ability makes it much easier to take board advantage for clean sweeps.
  • Cursed Minotaur a fairly balanced play for the mana cost. Menace to keep the blockers at bay.
  • Merciless Javelineer albeit a higher cost, the activated ability keeps with the synergy of low hand size and control of the combat.
  • Metallic Mimic a standard staple card within Tribal decks. Bringing other minotaurs to the board with +1/+1 and making for the additional play with Unlicensed Disintegration.

SPELLS:

ARTIFACTS:

  • Key to the City help with larger attacks, able to discard or if needed bring up some draw for potential plays.

Updates Add

Swapped out a few cards and added in a few new choices.

Tossed out the Throne of the God-Pharaoh and replaced it with Key to the City which all in all turned out to the one of the best decisions for the deck so far. The added ability to protect a creature from potential blockers, while still keeping with the discard mechanic was an incredible choice. The additional draw on untap was great as well.

Thinned out some of the spells in order to add in some Fiery Tempers. The ability to discard and still be an effective play worked wonders.

Also narrowed down the creature pool and tossed in a few Smoldering Marsh for some extra mana availability.

The event played out smoothly overall. The most major obstacle I faced was regularly getting enough lands on the field for big/quick plays, thus getting outpaced in a few matches. A G/R Energy Aggro deck eventually stomped me out with an 80/80 Trample Electrostatic Pummeler, and a W/U/B Control Planeswalker deck got me in the end because of lack of removal for the 4+ planeswalkers on the board.

The deck is definitely getting some work done on the battlefield, but definitely still needs some work done to be a rival force in Standard.
