The Butthurt Resonates

Standard Combo WUB (Esper)

Sideboard

H'OK! So here we go!

I like jank, I like causing grief, and I like big butts and cannot lie. You other brothers are unable to lie.

The core of this deck centres around disrupting the opponents turns, through forcing them to reuse mana or to stare perplexingly at your boardstate through their facepalm.

We do this through the following core cards:-

Perplexing Chimera - Forcing them to think hard about what they are going to play.

Soul Tithe - Upkeep mana drain with combo potential (and looks badass in foil). Putting this on Perplexing Chimera, then stealing their next spell, leaving them to pay to keep it, or sac it for you to get back with Auramancer. If they do keep it, tap Strionic Resonator and force them to pay a total of 10.

Soul Ransom - Stealing creatures, and card advantage (and looks badass in foil).

At first this may seem out of place and / or weak, and it probably is (even though it beat my Bant Superfriends deck), however they are made better through the following cards

Strionic Resonator - Pick two cards up off Ephara, God of the Polis's trigger, can force the Soul Tithe trigger to be paid twice, have Nightveil Specter steal two cards, Deputy of Acquittals return two creaturs, and Auramancer return two enchantments. But most importantly, allowing you to take control of Perplexing Chimera after stealing a spell (NOTE: You will not steal non-aura permanents, you can only redirect targets if you take Chimera back. Counters are a problem, but we can get around them by casting a shitty spell and directing it to that, in response to the Chimera trigger)

Nightveil Specter - Stealing their stuff, in double when combined with Strionic Resonator

Devour Flesh - Getting rid of hexproof things, and sacing creatures we steal with Soul Ransom (in response to the discard trigger)

Ephara, God of the Polis - Card advantage, working great with multiple acquitals and Obzedat, Ghost Council

Auramancer - Fetching all those important cards! Perplexing Chimera, Soul Tithe , Ephara, God of the Polis, Whip of Erebos and Soul Ransom .

I have had limited play testing, but would like to hear from you chaps. Please help where able.

I suspect I don't need 4x Devour Flesh, and could safely drop to 3x Perplexing Chimera, but let me know what you think brosefs. (DROPPED TO 3, REPLACED ONE WITH EREBOS)

First FNM went at moderate success, coming out at 3-1. Brief overview of games below, for those interested, and some comments

Round 1 vs. Red Aggro (Sligh) 0 -2

Using lots of one drops paired with removal, it managed to outpace me both times. Unfortunately my draws weren't ideal, and versing the aggro deck left no time for me to draw into what I needed. Both rounds played out the same.

Round 2 vs. G/W Heroic 2-0

Both matches played out similar, the opponents deck did not appear to go off. Obzedat and Ephara provided card advantage, with Devour Flesh and Soul Tithe controlling the limited amount of creatures.

Round 3 vs R/b Devotion - 2-1

Match 1 - Both decks started well, maintaining efficient land drops. Was able to slow down the tempo of opposing deck, to draw into late game wincons, however was land flooded. Opponent drew into solutions then took the first match.

Match 2 - Started the same, using Soul Tithe and Devour Flesh to slow opponents damage, then brought out Ghost Daddy and Ephara. Soul Ransom added to the card advantage, and forced removal to be used on his own creatures, to which were devoured in response. Match 2 to me.

Match 3 - Started off with an average hand, and didn't draw into what I needed. Utilizing creatures for early blocking in an attempt to draw into solutions. Shortly was mana screwed and top decking, with remaining soul tithes slowing down opponents tempo. After dealing with threats, he was top decking. I was able to drop down ghost daddy, ephara and whip, allowing me to stabilizing at 1 health (opponent was at 28 or so from Devour Fleshs). Then chained into several large Sphinx's Revelations, and was able to turn the game around.

Round 4. vs U/B Control 2-0

Match 1 - Ghost Daddy took the first game promptly, landing on turn 5 with a strionic already out. The combination quickly wittled him down.

Match 2 - Detention Spheres clearing his planeswalkers and ratchet bomb, all the while activating Ephara. Obzedat and whip proceeded to finish the job.

FINAL COMMENTS: I changed the mainboard prior to FNM, and am happy with the results. The addition of one more Obzedat, Ghost Council (at the cost of removing a Deputy of Acquittals) ensures he was hitting my hand consistently, and in all instances swayed the course of the game. Additionally, I sideboarded 2x Soul Ransom and a Devour Flesh to add in 3x Detention Spheres. These allowed for more consistent game ones, and adding in Soul Ransom based on the deck I am versing.

Star Players were 100% Obzedat, Ghost Council, Soul Tithe and Strionic Resonator.
