Core Concepts

Searchability / Toolbox

The more searchable my deck is, the more flexible it will be. I can search a number of "Silver Bullets" with Dimir House Guard, Fleshwrither, and Spellseeker due to carefully selecting cards based on mana costs. With multiple tutors in the deck that are less particular, I can almost always have the card I need, when I need it.

Repeatable

The general goal is to put a counter on a creature then sacrifice it for value. I do not intend to stack more than one to two counters on a creature, but to sacrifice it at beneficial moments (usually at the end of my opponent's turn). Creatures have been selected to have a high return on investment for each time they cycle through the battlefield.

Reasonable Casting Costs

Any spell over 4 CMC must be important to the function of the deck. Any spell over 5 CMC must have a profound-to-game-winning effect on the game. Please note that Greater Gargadon is being counted as CMC 1.

Life Control

Dethrone requires that the deck stay at least 1 life behind, so numerous cards have been added that deplete my own life total.

Winning

• Attacking: Good old fashioned damage. It gets me there more often than not.
• Advantage: Piling on ETB and Dies triggers usually leads to significant card advantage. Of course, this doesn't win the game outright, but it does make it a lot more likely.
• Combo: The deck can assemble numerous combos that either end the game outright or give the deck enough of a lead that victory is inevitable.
• Single-Card Win Conditions: Bearer of the Heavens and Insurrection will both usually win the game if they resolve.
