I built my new friend this $20 RDW, and the second FNM he went to, he went 4-0, pulled an Elspeth, Sun's Champion, and had a net profit off of Magic. The stars lined up that day, but it still isn't too uncommon for 3-1's and consisting beating of expensive decks. I felt bad watching him take down decks with playsets of Voice of Resurgences and some Brimaz, King of Oreskos. The reason this deck works so well is because we can apply great early turn pressure with
Rakdos Cackler
, Deviant Glee, Madcap Skills,
Spike Jester
, etc. Then on turn 3 or 4 (when your opponent has finally set up some defenses), you land a
Mogis's Marauder
and swing for game (as long as they aren't running black or red). Everything in this deck is meant to turn sideways.
Sideboarding:
U/W/X matchups- This matchup isn't too bad, as long as you can end it by Turn 4 or Turn 5 (as long as they don't get a Supreme Verdict in). After that, your chances diminish greatly. -4x Duress come in for 4x
Mogis's Marauder
, which really doesn't have any application in the control matchup.
MUD (or variants)-
Not a horrible matchup.
Frostburn Weird
and
Tidebinder Mage
definitely screw us over, but burn deals with them effectively.
Master of Waves
is annoying because it provides blockers (unless of course you get
Mogis's Marauder
) so:
-4x Doom Blade come in for 4x Shock. Doom Blade kills all of their threats but Nightveil Specter, which Lightning Strike deals with.-2x Ultimate Price and 2x
Searing Blood
comes in for 4x
Rakdos Shred-Freak
. Shred-Freak isn't a stellar creature, and the removal is much better.
R/G Monsters:
-This matchup got worse for us because of Courser of Kruphix, which gains them life and is a much better blocker than
Boon Satyr
. Once again, you have to finish before they begin to take over the game. Doom Blade takes care of their threats, so its a great add instead of Shock. -2x Ultimate Price can also come in place of 2x
Rakdos Shred-Freak
.
MBD/ Orzhov Midrange-
Our worst matchup. Bile Blight made this matchup worse, but the switch to Lifebane Zombie instead of Nightveil Specter helps us (the Zombie isn't a great blocker). You have to win before Blood Baron of Vizkopa, Obzedat, Ghost Council, or Grey Merchant of Asphodel.

Dark Betrayal
comes in for Shock, simply because it can kill stuff. -2x Duress also comes in instead of 2x Mogis's Maurader because it allows us to strip some kill spells. We don't need all four because we need threats. -2x Ultimate Price instead of 2x Mogis's Maurader. We need to keep devotion low, and this is another good card for that.
