That Was Fatal!

Pauper RG (Gruul)

lapeste47

This deck is built to ensure that enemy creatures always die when they encounter ours, and ours sometimes survive.

These creatures all have either deathtouch (x12) or power four or five (x15). The deathtouch group is cheap and dangerous versus creatures, but only a slow threat to the opponent's life total. The power 4-5 creatures can win games, but they cost more to cast and might not be lethal to every opposing creature.

I keep creature casting costs down by accepting low toughness, but I mitigate the low toughness by including many ways for them to gain first strike. This makes them fairly invulnerable versus creatures. They are still vulnerable to other kinds of removal, although Conifer Strider is very tough to kill if it has first strike.

I haven't been able to try this, so I'm not sure which of the noncreature helper cards will be most useful. Suggestions welcome.

As an aside, I enjoyed the book `Commander in Cheat' by Rick Reilly. I recommend it! Here's a link to the publisher's site.
