Tezz's Death Metal Show 2018 (STD B/U Artifacts)

Standard Artifact Competitive Midrange UB (Dimir)

My Deathmetal Artifact deck inspired by Mr. Tezzeret, whom is clearly a metalhead (I mean just look at him, hes metal af).

The idea is to get cheap and effective artifacts out and throwing Tezzeret's Touch on anything from Ornithopter to Walking Ballista and crash into them with all you got as quick as you can. The more artifacts you get up, the cheaper Herald of Anguish can become. The deck navigates turns fairly easily, you almost always have stuff to play the first several turns. The artifacts can cycle each other decently with Scrap Trawler. The Trawler is nice at any point in the game, as there are several artifacts in the deck lower than himself like Ornies, Walking Ballista or Hope of Ghirapur ensuring you almost always have something to play and the constant amount of Artifacts you drop plays nicely with Contraband Kingpin, which will help you move through your deck a little easier (not to mention, a solid defensive 2-drop, and worthy sacrifice for Scrapheap Scrounger if he dies valiantly, presumably while headbanging.) Search for Azcanta   and Azor's Gateway   is there for additional deck navigation as well. Binning lower cost artifacts feels less painful when you know you can get them back later with the Trawler. Costly Plunder works well in many ways, but its usually aimed at Servo Schematic, but anything will do, especially if Trawlers are on the board. Gleaming Barrier is nice because its got a nice block, its an artifact, and when it dies it makes an artifact. Win-win.

Tezzeret the Schemer is an interesting card and fits well in the deck, providing all kinds of metal amplification and more Artifacts (as well as a little mana spike, though I've not really needed that; the cells are better targets for 5/5s, or Costly Plunder Target). His second ability can even be used to spot clean any opponent creatures since theres usually plenty of artifacts on the board.

The win conditions have been primarily smacking them down with ridiculously early, belligerent and numerous 5/5 creatures. If you can protect Tezzeret, he will walk away with the game if he's allowed his ultimate, as literally turning everything, including his little //static.tappedout.net/cache/b7/17/b71778e6c042ec4f95b63bb8df082fab.pngEtherium Cells, into 5/5's get's increasingly difficult for your opponent to deal with turn after turn. Herald of Anguish has also been very nasty. They brings the true meaning of Death Metal to the Inventors' Fair 2018. I have been able to get them down on as early as turn 4 which adds pressure on your opponent having to discard, as well as being late-game moshers able to sac off unneeded artifacts to quell any creature pressure they might be trying to hopelessly build in the pit. And while theyre not Artifacts themselves, they are still 5/5 flying demons whom live on literal Death Metal. Theyre sacrifices play extremely well with the Scrap Trawler. They will also mock you if you say Slayer or Metallica is your favourite metal band.

Walking Ballista have also been an alternative wincon, as by the time I play them at any point in the game, theyre useful and keep coming back due to the Scrap Trawlers. I've had so much excess mana that you just keep stacking those counters until you can remove them all for the direct kill. If you manage to flip Azor's Gateway  , youll have even more mana to work with. This also works nicely with Tezzeret's Touch (as with pretty much everything, you are likely gathering), as you can constantly feed him the counters over his base 5/5, and should your opponent send him to the grave, sac off the remaining counters and then he goes back to your hand, allowing another full load of mana to power his counters the following turn. Inventors' Fair helps pull him if you can't find him in time (though I usually end up using the Fair to fetch Gonti's Aether Heart; he's also technically 0CMC, which makes him another useful target for the Scrap Trawlers should he die off. And the last alt-win con, which honestly fit's more into the main wincon but deserves attention, is putting Tezzeret's Touch on Skysovereign, Consul Flagship. While it would lose 1 base attack because of it, a 5/5 flier with the ability to throw 3 damage at whatever you want as it attacks WITHOUT having to be crew'ed can leave your opponent headbanging into submission.

Theres a bit of a lockdown element in this deck Ive recently added with more Herald of Anguish and Hope of Ghirapur. Tezzeret's Touch will allow Hope to deal 5 damage, then sac it to prevent your opponent from playing anything but creatures. Meanwhile, hope bounces back to your hand. If you play it again, it has yet another chance to do it again, buying you more time to get to your Heralds taxing your opponent and adding pressure. Meanwhile, Gonti's Aether Heart can rob your opponent of an entire turn if the games drag out. This card is in here just because metal.

UPDATE: Splashed a light amount of energy to make use of Glimmer of Genius cardflow and energy to make something of Gonti's Aether Heart, which I feel like could be really fun in this deck.

This deck is incredibly flexible and adaptive to different decks, which is one of my favourite things about it. Its surprisingly aggressive, just enough control, and can flex between early-mid-late games really smoothly.

Sideboard for obvious answers to annoying decks, especially Dive Down, which is basically my blue-solution-for-a-faux-Blossoming Defense-but-still--amazing-defensive removal-counter. Flex in the creature hate like Underhanded Designs if youre up against more aggro or lifegain. Also helps against slower decks as well. Light counters for surprise. I will continue to play around with it some and I am open to any ideas and suggestions! I've played around with it some versus varying archetypes and holds it own well. Still playtesting in newest form, but its still a blast to play.
