Hi folks!
As soon as my Delirium deck got hit by Banhammer I've got to brew new one. Here's my take on Artifact control deck that doesn't need a lot of money to play.
Signature mechanic of this deck is Improvise. Improvise let's you to play above-the-curve things while being pretty controlling.
So we get to our first section - Artifacts:
Cogworker's Puzzleknot - great in this deck because it provides you with 2 artifacts. Also splashing white for its ability is pretty easy.
Metalspinner's Puzzleknot - slow card draw but provides an additional value just as artifact on the table.
Pacification Array - is great tool to control your opponent's creature, vehicles and Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
Hope of Girapur
- good play for 1 mana. Later in the game it can make sure you can drop your threat without fear of counter or instant removal. And it's a LEGENDARY THOPTER! Bloody LEGENDARY THOPTER!!!
Merchant's Dockhand
- also good 1 mana drop that provides you with value later in the game.
Now you need to Control your opponent! Here are your tools:
Grasp of Darkness - very efficient removal. I can see an argument for Fatal Push but it's too hyped and too expensive card for uncommon right now.
Murder - unconditional removal is always good.
Ruinous Path - removal for planeswalkers. Can be swapped for Grasp of Darkness, Murder or Fatal Push if you don't face Gideons or Lilianas too often.
Metallic Rebuke - Mana Leak for 1 mana (often). Take a whole playset.
Reverse Engineer - almost a Treasure Cruise. You need answers so you need to draw cards.
Ob Nixilis Reignited - overall good and cheap and efficient planeswalker. Card draw, removal and alternative win condition, what's not to like?
"And how does this deck wins?" - you may ask. And here we got to our Win conditions:
Herald of Anguish - big flying body with removal attached to it. In this deck you are planning to cast it as soon as turn 3-4. Also this demon doges 2 main removal spells in Standard: Grasp of Darkness and Fatal Push
Tezzeret's Touch - make your 1 mana artifact 5/5 creature and go to town!
Tezzeret the Schemer - win con in grindy games. Also a good value piece in the deck that provides ramp and removal.
It's pretty hard to talk about Sideboard without any knowledge about upcoming meta, but i will try.
Against Control decks you may need:
Card draw - Glimmer of Genius and Jace, Unraveler of Secrets
Planeswalker removal - Ruinous Path and
Deadlock Trap
Counters - Dispel and Negate
Against _Aggressive _ decks you want:
More removal - Yahenni's Expertise and Battle at the Bridge
Good blocker - Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
It's just a first version of the deck. Further testing will show all pros and cons of it and improvements will be made.
