My first commander deck. Shortly after I started playing, I bought a random, single Dragon's Maze booster. A non-foil Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts was the rare (I know, the value!). Her high cost and crazy, but powerful ability seemed to me to be what Commander is all about. The deck started as a random pile of sweet orzhov cards. After getting some experience with commander, it became an Orzhov lifegain deck. It was fun, but it felt like Teysa was just a cool card on top of the deck. I went back to the drawing board and came back with a deck that felt more in sync with the commander.

The current iteration of the deck is an Orzhov control deck, inspired by Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts's gameplan of "I'll block those creatures with my face!". The monarch & initiative mechanics ans cards like Coveted Jewel either rewards the rattlesnake effect with continuous possesion of these mechanics, or gets players to attack before getting critical mass to become the monarch (netting me mini-field wipes and ghosts to retake the crown). Teysa is also unblockable, so it's easier to get these mechanics back momentarily to gain resource advantage without committing overly to combat. Overall, this is planned to lead to games with more medium and small scale combat, where good value creatures can play for smart attacks and blocks, rather than letting boards stall until we hit the "board wipe, overrun, or pass" play pattern. This plan is a little risky, so I have kept some of the lifegain from v2 of the deck, and supplemented it with damage reduction effects like Ajani Steadfast's emblem or Valkmira, Protector's Shield  . To suppliment the card draw available to black, I've brought in some of White's repeatable reanimator effects.

Currently I'm in the middle of tinkering with making this deck "3 colors" adding more colorless cards. There were a number of colorless producing lands due to their utility, starting with adding Mirrorpool and Sea Gate Wreckage back in Zendikar 2. Rise of the Eldrazi resparked the interest recently, so I'm considering committing more fully to the idea, but need to assess if that card works here and if any other colorless cards would make the cut. I'd love suggestions or input on this idea.
