testing the changes —June 10, 2018
Preliminary changes. Might revert depending on how things go, so not formalizing them yet.
Adds: Worn Powerstone, Commander's Sphere, Magnifying Glass, Phyrexian Reclamation, Disciple of Griselbrand, Profane Memento, Cathar's Crusade, Suture Priest, Sun Droplet, Seraph Sanctuary.
Cuts: Ogre Slumlord, Grand Abolisher, Plains, Reveillark, Fiend Hunter, Angel of Glory's Rise, Blasting Station, Grim Haruspex, Buried Alive, Xathrid Necromancer.
Update: I've mostly reverted the changes. I think R&K might be worth pursuing in the future, but doing so would require more of a rework than I can do with the cards I have on hand. My overall impression was that R&K are very powerful when they are active.... but they are also significantly more expensive (and likely to be killed) than Teysa, which means you need a lot more acceleration to deal with the tempo penalty (or run a bunch of protection). Also need to consistently have lifegain / black mana available, which this deck currently does not.
Still, testing did give me ideas for a few changes, mostly to add more mana rocks.
-Mirror Entity - it has always been extremely rare for me to activate it. There are some interesting things it can do with human synergies, but usually too niche.
-Ogre Slumlord - generally win-more. Good with wraths and Grave Pact, but I am not capable of consistently killing my opponents' things.
-Oversold Cemetary - incredibly slow, and difficult to actually trigger due to my lack of self-mill. I don't think I've ever gotten more than one card out of it.
-Phyrexian Furnace - I feel bad about cutting this, because grave hate is really good. However, it is generally too slow - it's impossible to keep more than one opponent under control, and even that is difficult. Might be better if I had some way to consistently recur it. Think I want to just run some heavier hate. Pity Leyline of the Void is out of budget range....
+Phyrexian Reclamation - cut previously because it was too slow, but I really want some more recursion. So, testing. Extra mana rocks should help a bit.
+Burnished Hart, Commander's Sphere, Worn Powerstone - a bunch of mana rocks. I think this deck has historically not had enough acceleration.
