Trying to work
Surrak Dragonclaw
into an otherwise straightforward green/blue devotion.
While definitely meant to hold it's own, the goal of this deck is simple: Make giant hydras. Preferably millions of them. For this reason, when given the option, the win-con should ALWAYS be
Hydra Broodmaster
.
For anyone somehow unfamiliar with the basics of a green devotion deck, the idea is to cast as many early mana dorks as you can, including Elvish Mystic, Kiora's Follower,
Voyaging Satyr
, and Courser of Kruphix. Those will give you the devotion symbols you need to crack off Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for a good amount, and then an insane amount when you untap it with either Kiora's Follower or
Voyaging Satyr
and use your floating mana to tap it again.
The mana sinks in this deck are of course Polukranos, World Eater who should always be cast turn 3 if possible, Genesis Hydra who should never have X be less than at LEAST 6 to pull out our final (and favorite!) mana sink,
Hydra Broodmaster
. I've also added Soul of New Phyrexia for mid-late game shenanigans and a nice eternal mana sink.
Surrak Dragonclaw
is of course the man of the hour, making for safe creature casting, game ending trample, and the always fun mid-turn blowout with flash. He is a very acceptable target for Genesis Hydra and very commonly the man you want to grab with:
Chord of Calling - to generally give you what you need, normally Surrak, often Karametra's Acolyte or Courser of Kruphix, not uncommonly Prophet of Kruphix, and always on the opponent's turn. Can be used for Soul of New Phyrexia for insurance purposes.
Prophet of Kruphix for that sweet, sweet vigilance and double-time creature casting.
Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Monstrous for huge, swing for wins.
Recommendations are of course welcome, especially on the sideboard.
