Hello, and welcome to The Colossal Race, my artifact aggro deck! As always, please +1 if you like my ideas, and all suggestions are welcome.

So I've been playing a lot of controlly, spell based decks lately, and I thought it would be nice to try something different. I ran into an Aetherstorm deck at a recent FNM, and I thought it would be fun to modify that shell into a pure aggressive deck based around vehicles and value artifact creatures. Take a look and let me know your thoughts.

Part 1: Deep deep discounts.

Like the Aetherstorm deck that inspired it, the main engine here is the combo of Herald of Kozilek and Foundry Inspector. But unlike the inspiration the goal here is not to cast a multitude of spells, but to flood the field with high-value artifacts and vehicles at little to no mana cost.

Part 2: Off to the Races

Next step is to swing swing swing with vehicles crewed by your Inspectors and Heralds, especially those hasty tramplers Fleetwheel Cruiser. Cultivator's Caravan does double duty giving both ramp and a large body. This deck has little to no interaction with the opponent, so the way to win is just to be purely aggressive.

Part 3: Colossus of the Fair

Time for the win-con. To keep our hands full we have Metalspinner's Puzzleknot and Prophetic Prism. Then, once we find our Inventors' Fairs and Sanctum of Ugin we sac them to drop multiple Metalwork Colossus and just run our opponent over, using Key to the City to dodge chump blocks and Fling as an answer to removal. Saheeli Rai makes hasty copies of the Colossi, and Metallic Rebuke is a surprise bit of counter that never costs us more than one blue because of Improvise.

Sideboard and Strategy:

The Big 5 in Standard are Marvel, Zombies, Vehicles, UR T-Hulk, and GB Snek. Here's how to deal with each.

  • Marvel: If you see those Temur colors coming down, make sure you get Hope of Ghirapur down ASAP. You MUST slow them down, so make sure you are attacking with Hope right before they get their fourth land drop. If it hits, sac it. The only thing they usually have to block is Thopter tokens from Whirler Virtuoso, and that spends 3 of their energy, which is a beautiful trade for us. For SB, go down one of each vehicle for Ceremonious Rejection.

  • Zombies: A challenge Game 1 because we can't go wide. Keep Aethersphere Harvester back as a blocker crewed by Heart rather than attacking, and make sure to Fling as early as possible and then get the Colossi back from the graveyard to block. I have Radiant Flames rather than Sweltering Suns because the double-red can be challenging to get. Trim down 1 of each artifact to bring that and Magma Spray

  • Vehicles: The key is to not get run over early, pun intended. If we can survive until Turn 4, then the Harvesters are awesome for stabilizing. For SB bring in Magma Spray to remove their smaller creatures and Negate for the PWs.

  • T-Hulk: Tough matchup, since we are vulnerable to counters and artifact removal. We have to hit fast and hard, because they will win the long game. Fling with wild abandon, even some of the vehicles. Negate is a must from the SB, since you know Release the Gremlins or By Force is coming.

  • Snek: Be careful, because this deck can get tall in a hurry. Like Zombies, use the Harvesters to stabilize. Bring in build to smash to take advantage of their tendency to try to kill-block.

Hopefully you are entertained by my ideas. If so, please +1, comment, and suggest. Thanks!

Updates Add

Metalwork Colossus has a new best buddy. Say hi to Ghalta, Primal Hunger!! Just a splash of green from Botanical Sanctum, a couple rotational tweaks I had to do anyway, and we are good to go! Can’t wait to drop multiple of each on a single turn!
