Premise

This is my take on a "good stuff" Tiny Leaders tempo deck with the Jeskai commander, Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest .

Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest seems like a very strong Tiny Leaders general. He's very popular and is just begging to have a fast, efficient tempo shell built around him. By using cards like Young Pyromancer, Monastery Swiftspear, Kiln Fiend, Soulfire Grand Master, and Monastery Mentor, value plays can be made turn after turn. An efficient spell package of removal, burns, and countermagic compliments the efficient creature suite. A focus on cantrips like Ponder, Preordain, and Brainstorm allows the deck to retain a fast tempo.

Card Choices

Critters

  • Boros Reckoner: Very hard to deal with on the ground, and often a 2-for-1 if we block correctly. This is exactly the sort of value creature the deck needs.

  • Geist of Saint Traft: The card is just good. Keep him in reserve until he can swing in safely. This shouldn't take long, given the deck's aggressive removal package.

  • Kiln Fiend: Almost half of our deck turns this guy into a powerhouse. He's fragile, though, so try to clear the lanes for him whenever possible.

  • Monastery Mentor: Ludicrously powerful if left unchecked. Has synergy with half of the deck.

  • Monastery Swiftspear: Aggro all-star that has synergy with half of the deck.

  • Mother of Runes: Protects the threats.

  • Seeker of the Way: Synergy with half of the deck and takes the edge off of some of the pain in the mana base. Can hit hard, too.

  • Snapcaster Mage: The tempo shell is just begging for him. So many value plays become available with him in hand.

  • Soulfire Grand Master: Gives a lot of our removal life gain, and his buyback-like ability can sharpen our late-game plays significantly.

  • Wee Dragonauts : Kiln Fiend in the air. Hits pretty hard for relatively minimal investment.

  • Young Pyromancer: Generates a stupendous level of value. Elaboration unnecessary.

Tempo Tools

Optional Sideboard

  • Anger of the Gods: Sweeper for relevant matchups.

  • Combust : Amazing in the mirror but generally good against decks using or .

  • Isochron Scepter: Provides a good way to get an edge in the tempo mirror. Shines against certain types of control, too.

  • Pyroclasm: Our second sweeper.

  • Spell Pierce: Good for the mirror, combo control, and burn matchups.

  • Spell Snare: Good in the mirror and certain aggro matchups. Solid against control, too.

  • Sunforger: Strong equipment at the top of the curve that either provides extra damage or tutors out the spell required for the situation. Good in the mirror and solid against aggro. Almost made it to the mainboard.

  • Sword of Fire and Ice: Very strong in the mirror, also amazing against burn and certain forms of control.

  • Volcanic Fallout : Third sweeper.

  • Wear / Tear: Sideboard staple for our colors. An answer for troublesome artifacts and/or enchantments.
