Sideboard

Maybeboard

Here's Johnny. Tap into the Deep and bring a nuclear submarine to a water pistol fight. This deck can drop Westvale Abbey  , use it to make 5 tokens, and flip it the same turn. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The key to this deck is Kiora's Follower. "Untap target permanent" - combined with Freed from the Real and Fertile Ground, Kiora's Follower will not only generate infinite mana, it will also give all controlled creatures pseudo vigilance, generate infinite proliferation and board wipe with Contagion Engine, infinite card draw with Mind Spring , infinite damage via Chalice of Life   (flipped), and could be harnessed for many, many diabolical ends. This is a deck that drops a planeswalker and puts an emblem on the battlefield the same turn, along with (3) 8/8 octopus to boot, then takes another turn, and swings for 24 with 3 tokens we don't even care about. It's got it's flaws - many, for sure. But it's mad fun to play, and it garners that special sort of hate that's caused not only by opponent's futility, but the brutality of their loss as well.

*This deck is hub tagged as "Budget" and while some might find <$100 to be budget, others may not. I only want to note, that this deck is more budget friendly to myself personally because I already own some of the cards in paper. For example, I have a full set of Contagion Engine which I purchased when it was <$2/copy. Ok, nothing else. A very brief breakdown follows:

This deck is an attempt to make a threat of Kiora - Kiora, Master of the Depths/Kiora, the Crashing Wave in the Modern format, something that, for seemingly incomprehensible reasons, has yet to be fully explored. It takes queues from her +1 untap creature+land, attempting to create an infinite mana and untap loop with Kiora's Follower, Freed from the Real, and Fertile Ground/any land. As soon as T3, infinite mana and subsequently infinite untap of any permanent creat a terrifying battery of win-cons. Contagion Engine can be untapped and tapped to ramp loyalty counters on Kiora, Master of the Depths. Alternatively, Ludevic's Test Subject   can be flipped with infinite mana or proliferate. For added power, Savor the Moment allows our Kiora Octopuses to attack before an opponent has a retaliation turn. Sideboard Blighted Agent and proliferate to death. Sideboard Chalice of Life   and tap to death. Or perhaps you're just drowning and all this is an hallicination.

The sideboard is a mix between commonplace utility spells - Pithing Needle, Natural State, Hurkyl's Recall, some added win-cons to limit opponents' removal options - Blighted Agent, Chalice of Life   and also Ghost Quarter as a slight means against tron lands and Elixir of Immortality for local meta mill security and security on infinite draw.

Combos and such:

Kiora's Follower+Island+Fertile Ground+Freed from the Real=Infinite mana and infinite untap of any permanant

Targets for Kiora's infinite untap: Savor the Moment, Contagion Engine, Chalice of Life  , Westvale Abbey

Uses for infinite mana: Ludevic's Test Subject  , Mind Spring

Uses for infinite proliferation: Kiora's Follower+ Simic Growth Chamber +Freed from the Real+Contagion Engine=Infinite proliferation=Kiora, Master of the Depths ramped up to 100 loyalty counters the same turn she enters.

Blighted Agent waits in the sideboard for a proliferation surprise in games 2 or 3. Redundancies and Insurances:

Voyaging Satyr is strictly not as good as Kiora's Follower, but will help generate gobs of mana to drop Contagion Engine, Kiora, Master of the Depths, or to fuel us through a second turn from Savor the Moment.

Kiora's Follower is a major removal target. Vines of Vastwood gives the Follower some added staying power.

Fog - LOL

Noxious Revival - return to our deck those important permanents that get removed.

Buried Ruin - Please remove our Contagion Engine so we can play it again.

Summoner's Pact - there are a lot of pieces to this deck. The Pact can help us get it rolling with a bit more consistency.

Drift of Phantasms - another tutor, this one specifically aimed at getting Freed from the Real into our hand.
