Tana and Thrasios is a tribal deck with specific tricks and two distincts ways to win.

Quick overview of the strategy :

First steps : Play elves / Generate mana / Play Tana / Generate saprolings

Win condition 1 : Block with saprolings / Generate more mana / Play Thrasios and play your Deck

Win condition 2 : Play aggro / Pray the Eldrazi and kill with your saprolings and your elves

First step :

Ok, elves love elves : synergy is everywhere with this very classic, old and (too ?) powerful tribe. Elves can ramp (one among many: Bloom Tender), elves can become bigger (one among may : Immaculate Magistrate), and elves can produce more elves (one among many : Imperious Perfect). It's ideal for Tana ability : if Tana is casted quickly, she will find less blockers in her way, and if Tana is bigger, she will produce more saprolings.

Win condition 1 :

Priest of Titania,Bloom Tender,Wirewood Channeler and a Umbral Mantle give you infinite mana for Thrasios. You can search the mantle with Drift of Phantasms if needed. Even without an infinite combo, you should be able to generate a huge amount of mana to fuel Thrasios and win a decisive advantage. If you have Training Grounds in play, it's even more powerful.

Win condition 2 :

Akroma's Memorial, Beastmaster Ascension, Eldrazi Monument, Coat of Arms, are some of the many cards that will give you a massive advantage early in the game if you are quicker than yout opponents to develop your mana and little soldiers (elves or saprolings). In this case, play aggro and benfit from your advantage : Tana will make it even larger turn after turn.

About specific cards:

There's a great number of 3CCM cards here : Drift of Phantasms is more than a tutor for Umbral Mantle. If you don't have the other infinite combo piece, you can chose Fecundity, Edric, Spymaster of Trest, Fires of Yavimaya or whatever is needed by the situation.

Training Grounds is very good with Thrasios but it can shine with Wren's Run Packmasterand it works with Umbral Mantle too.

Maybeboard :

If you like the umbra mantle combo, you can add Freed from the Real, Pemmin's Aura or Sword of the Paruns.

If you like combos and want to stay in tune with the sparoling subtheme, you can add Sprout Swarm and Mana Echoes : infinite mana and infinite creatures...

If you feel this deck lacks control, and want to keep sparo/elves theme, you can add Artifact Mutation, Æther Mutation and Nullmage Shepherd

You want more elves tha can produce a lot of mana ? Think about Viridian Joiner or Mul Daya Channelers

If you find there's too much land that comes into play tapped : Amulet of Vigor is a solution.

Deckbuilding History :

This deck was firts designed for Tana and his ability that reminded me an old card i've always liked :Living Hive. My first idea was to play all the polymorph spells (Mass Polymorph, Day of the Dragons, Synthetic Destiny, Hellion Eruption, etc.) and cards like Thieves' Auction, Warp World and The Great Aurora in a kind of mass chaos deck.It supposed adding a blue partner for Tana. As i didn't want to play 4 colors, the choice were limited to Thrasios, Kraum, Ludevic's Opus and Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist. Kraum is used in so much decks as a finisher that i prefered to ignore him. Ludevic seemed better in a multiplayer game and i wanted to build a deck able to perform both in duel and multi. The choice of Thrasios was originally done by default. After a while, i realized the potential of Thrasios : it gives a huge avantage to decks able to generate a lot (or infinite) mana. With green commanders, and the Elf type for Tana, the tribal deck was one of the most obvious choice.
This idea was the first step to the actual deck : yes, another tribal deck with elves, but with tricks very specific to Tana and Thrasios partnership.
