Syr Faren, the Timmy | Budget EDH

Commander / EDH Mono-Green

GenesisOdin

The Theory

Another of my mono-coloured budget brews involving taking a look at all my green cards laying around and jamming together a deck with them.

The goal of this little project is to assemble 5 decks that are:

  1. Beginner friendly
  2. Wallet friendly
  3. A typical representation of what the colour does best

In the spirit of that, this deck is just a pile of big dumb creatures and mana ramp . The goal of this deck is to play trample tribal and forced blocks to get through a tonne of damage, with Lord Timmy providing a pump to your biggest threats every combat.

The Deck

There really isn't much to go into details about in this deck, it plays pretty straight forward, looking to just win with combat damage. There are a fair few fight spells included to work as targeted removal of problem creatures, a small package of cards to provide evasion (i.e Hot Soup and Cobbled Wings ), and some equipment and enchantments to provide a buff to Syr Faren, the Hengehammer so that he can both survive combat and pump your creatures a lot.

The best interactions in this deck that I've noticed while playing include:

Caller of the Pack , Jedit Ojanen of Efrava and Howl of the Night Pack + Ivy Lane Denizen will get you a bunch of +1/1 counters on your critters, getting increasingly more dangerous every combat step.

Gruul Beastmaster + Syr Faren, the Hengehammer play so beautifully well together, allowing you to baton-pass power to one creature and make them monstrously large. I recommend an unblockable Hydra Omnivore or a Thorn Elemental .

Karametra's Acolyte + Chameleon Colossus + Syr Faren, the Hengehammer because the deck is mono green, Karametra's Acolyte is going to provide an absolutely bonkers amount of mana, Chameleon Colossus provides an amazing mana sink, easily becoming lethal on it's own.

Finally, I'd like to shout out two of, in my experience, criminally underplayed cards: Crashing Drawbridge and Hero's Blade . Crashing Drawbridge is so important in this deck, providing haste to your big dumb creatures and Karametra's Acolyte so you don't have to worry about them living a round is what this deck wants the most, and all for the low price of $0.30. Seriously, if you deck can use haste, put this card in it.

And Hero's Blade is honestly a huge buff for your commander every time you cast it for free. In combat focused decks, it's an all-star! It makes Syr Faren, the Hengehammer a whopping 5/4, on it's own, which will then allow him to pump another creature by 5! If your deck cares at all about swinging in with legendary creatures (looking at you, Boros), this card should be in your deck.
