#2cd place @manawerx SCG IQ —March 8, 2013

Long long day with lots of good players, it was $25 to enter which meant a a lot less scrubs entered.

Match 1: opponent playing esper tokens. 2-0. Both games my life total got out of hand and he didn't run board wipes because he used the land that made his tokens life linkers and deathtouch. I just simply overwhelmed him with Triumph of Ferocity on the board one game I had stupid card advantage.

Match 2: opponent playing red black aggro. 2-1. This was a tough match for me because his deck was so fast, first game he blew me out and I side boarded Loxodon Smiter's to have advantage over burn spells. Round 2 turn 2&3 I dropped Loxodon Smiters and followed it up with a Silverblade Paladin for the kill. Round 3 he turn one apatite for brains to find a Sublime Archangel, Thragtusk, Loxodon Smiter, Garruk, Primal Hunter, 2 land and an Avacyn's Pilgrim, his expression was sadness and he said "fuck... man, what do I hit... the aggro deck is going to get out aggroed" which my first 3 draws were Silverblade Paladin, Sunpetal Grove and another Sublime Archangel it did in fact out aggro him and I went to game 3

Match 3: opponent playing naya midrange. 1-2. These games were sooo goddamn close game 3 I lost because my sideboarded Nevermore couldn't hit the 2 Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip in his hand because he was on the play and turn 1 land+Avacyn's Pilgrim followed by Farseek turn 2 and another land. He told me afterwards that if he didn't topdeck the land on turn 2 before his farseek, he would have been stuck with Thragtusk and 2 Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip in hand that he couldn't have cast. Sad face.

Match 4: opponent playing b/u zombies. 2-0. All my creatures were bigger, my lifegain was pretty powerful, and his biggest threat Drogskol Captain got to 3/3 and I Rancor on it and removed it with Selesnya Charm on turn 5 and swung for the kill.

Match 5: opponent playing w/u control. 2-0. One game he got land screwed and the second game; turn 1 land+Avacyn's Pilgrim go! - turn 2 I played Silverblade Paladin and land and passed - turn 3 land+Sublime Archangel paired with Silverblade Paladin and swung for 4/4 doublestrike no blocks - opponent played Augur of Bolas and pulled a Supreme Verdict and passed - I played Rancor on the first Sublime Archangel that was paired and he was scooping (4/3 now 6/3 + 2 exalted triggers 8/5 doublestrike in air for 16) and I was in the process of tapping my avacyn and other 3 land for another Sublime Archangel to swing for 24 in the air on turn 4 (4/3 + rancor2/0 = 6/3 exalted triggers from both sublimes x6 to make it 12/9 in the air with double strike...fucking beast). I actually felt pretty bad about it because he got land screwed the first game, but I really don't like fighting control so I was happy it passed quick.

Match 6: Intentional Draw. Went to top 8.

Match 7 top 8: opponent playing bant control. 2-1. Longest games ever. My opponent was using a lot of the same creatures I was but had the ability to board wipe and counter and with no time limit he took time to make his decisions. I lost the first game after getting him to 5 health because of double Thragtusk followed by Angel of Serenity. The second game he played Rhox Faithmender and I promptly responded with Nevermore naming Thragtusk because I couldn't outlast his lifegain and he drew 2 thragtusks after that. 3 rd game I named Supreme Verdict with Nevermore when he had 2 in hand and my pressure was constant.

Match 8 top 4: opponent playing b/u control some weird Mutilate Staff of Nin deck. 2-0. Pretty fast games actually, he controlled me and got me low on game 1 but my lifegain came back and I squeeked by on game 1 with some pro shit, he had 2 Staff of Nin in play he was shooting me with and at the end of his turn I played a Selesnya Charm to create a 2/2 vigilance token. I waited for him to respond and shoot it twice so I could respond with my other 5 mana and Gavony Township to pump it but he didn't. On my turn I Rancor on my token and he responded with shooting it, so I pumped it and swang for 5 which was his exact health. Game 2 he never got to his 4th swamp to mutilate my field which was 3 Restoration Angel's and an Avacyn's Pilgrim.

Match 9 top 2: I gave my opponent the win so he would get the invite and I got to take the prize support other than the invite, we played it out for fun and he ended up beating me 2-0, he was playing a really strong deck I think he called his fight-bear deck. Ulvenwald Tracker Predator Ooze is a beast ass combo, and he had other aggressive creatures but that was his main combo. I was able to remove his ooze a few times but the consistent pressure and use of the tracker kept my field empty for him to damage and most of the time trample in.

Really fun/stressful day but my deck performed very well, was overall super happy with the results!

Going to be making a few changes to this but I chopped a box at the box tournament last night with this deck. Ran smooth!

I built a very similar deck, mine had a lot of success. And it's very consistent. I think that's what you're missing. If you have consistent draws, you can perform the same action over and over and over.

Thalia slowed me down too, though! I won 3 out of 5 times. Key is to o-ring her as soon as possible and have creatures out to keep swinging., so by turn three it's a good idea to have some guns out.

My only suggestion is to streamline the deck idea so you give yourself better draws more frequently.

I hit top four and we split the reward for first, so FNM was awesome with my iteration. I am just afraid people will try and prepare for it next week.

Lol yea small mana curve lots of utility. I love giving my life linkers first strike and pump with Ethereal Armor and ajani is easy to get out fast for a pump or a flying double strike

holy cow, i didnt see the "for each enchantment ability" 0_0. That's sick, and nice use of bruna. I didn't know what deck she would fit in when i pulled one, so props to you.

lol thanks, yea I've found her useful when I super enchant my life linkers or stalker/geist and stuff gets murdered or board wiped, I throw her on the bf and am like...so...all those enchantments in my graveyard and that rancor on your knight of the parish......go ahead and attack me lol.

Ethereal Armor is probably one of my favorite cards from the rtr set so far, the utility is great, the cost is cheap and it stacks. 2 ethereal armor's on an invisible stalker alone makes him a 5/5 on turn 3, if I throw out nevermore's or detention spheres afterwards...he grows more.

card:Sphinx's Revelation and card:Faith's Reward could help you recover from a board wipe.

Thoughts on Mentor of the Meek ??

Could replace Think Twice with it

Additionally, would Azorius Keyrune be able to be soulbonded to Silverblade Paladin or take advantage of the Mentor of the Meek ability? I don't know if paying to change it into a creature doubles as an ETB effect
