Commander / EDH

alias42

When Atraxa was first spoiled, i literally squealed in excitement. I hate playing red, so i was one of many people who was waiting eagerly for 4 color legends so I could play the colors I like and not have to include red to play my commander. Throw in that her proliferate ability sets her up to be used for just about anything, and I have never been so excited for a creature.

This deck has gone through numerous ground up rebuilds, totally redesigning the deck and changing its purpose each time.

Version 1.0: Infect. I think everybody immediately jumped to infect when they saw a proliferate commander, and I was no exception. I hated playing it though, it wasn't fun for me. If I played iChat rats, the game was just on a count down timer, and I was all but guaranteed to win. Even without the gimme counter, proliferating +1 counters on an infect creature was just unfair, took all the challenge out of the game, and so I scrapped this idea.

Version 2: +1 counters. I liked this version a lot more, I made big fatties with lots of +1 counters then overran my opponents. I decided to scrap this idea because I knew there were better options out there for how the deck could be played. In EDH, aggro is a relatively weak archetype and yet that's exactly what I was limiting myself to. I already have several EDH aggro decks, and so I decided it was time to play something different and force myself to go outside of my comfort zone so I can grow as a player.

Which brings us to version 3: (current version) Super Friendly Stax!: like most people, I love planeswalkers. Indeed one of the things I was excited for when I first saw atraxa was a free loyalty counter on any number of planeswalkers each turn. I thought about building a traditional super friends deck, but I also liked the state of constant control that stax decks present. It's virtually impossible to lose when you are the only player who can do anything after all.

Key combos in this deck:Grand Architect + Pili-Pala = infinite mana. Throw in Gilder Bairn and it becomes infinite mana and infinite counters (of all types)

Atraxa, Praetors' Voice + Crystalline Crawler + Stasis = what are untap phases?

Lodestone Myr + Winter Orb = get out of jail free card (also works with Static Orb, or both)

The main issue I have with this deck is speed, I find it is far too slow to lock the game down to get a win. Usually by the time I get the necessary stax pieces, I am unable to play them because my opponents have gained control of the board, making putting a target on my head a bad idea. Any advice that can help me gain control faster would be vastly appreciated.

If you like this deck, please upvote. Also, feel free to comment and let me know if you have any advice :)

Edit: 12/21/16 I opted to go all in on this deck and switched to a significantly less budget friendly mana base. my wallet weeps in agony, but I think it will give me the speed boost this deck needs.
