This deck is VERY COMPETITIVE. It's been tested constantly for over a year and it's now pretty close to optimized. There are several types of Narset EDH deck you can find on Tappedout, and I believe this type is the most consistent and competitive one.

The main strategy of playing this deck is to get Narset out and attack to trigger her ability as early as possible. Once you attack for the first time, your opponents are very likely to have no more turn of their own for the rest of the game.

  • Manage to attack for the first time without any blocking creature or creatures big enough to kill Narset. Normally a turn-three Narset and a turn-four attack is on average. Sometimes a turn-two or even turn-one Narset is possible if Magic God is on your side. Once her ability is triggered, chances are that one or more extra turn/ combat phase cards can be cast without paying their mana costs. And with the extra turn / combat phase you get, you can have more and more combat phases and extra turns for more ability triggering. Usually when you get 2 or 3 extra turns or combat phases with Narset on board, you opponents would just scoop and start another game.

  • A land destruction card like Armageddon, Catastrophe, or Sunder exiled with Narset's ability could just end the game. Without having any land on board and Narset on the battlefield, your opponents can have very small chances to win the game.

  • Last and the simplest one, exiling Enter the Infinite with Narset's ability. It can be achieved by Personal Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Long-Term Plans or simply just luck. The First Step: cast Enter the Infinite and then put Omniscience back to your library. The Second Step: Exiling two red cards which are useless for the rest of the game for example like Need for Speed, Mass Hysteria or Ashling's Prerogative to cast Fury of the Horde OR if Fury of the Horde has been used previously, just use ramping artifact or spells like Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Mox Diamond, etc. to cast Seize the Day or Relentless Assault. The Third Step: Attack and then cast Omniscience. Cast all the extra turn / combat phase cards and then Beacon of Tomorrows should be on the top of your library. Therefore, whenever you attack with Narset for the rest of that turn, you can get one more extra turn. After all this, you should have at least one opponent killed by commander damage and about 20 extra turns. The Fourth step: Return cards back to your library using Scroll Rack so you'll have cards to draw. OR Forget about returning cards to your library and leave only Beacon of Tomorrows there.

As I said in the previous section, my win cons include casting Enter the Infinite, land destruction, and revealing several extra turn / combat phase spells and eventually finding Enter the Infinite.

So what's the percentage of winning for each attack?

First of all I presume that revealing Enter the Infinite, Armageddon, Catastrophe, Ravages of War, Sunder, and Boom/Bust as winning. And I disregard the possibility of those spells being countered. And the chance of winning for each blind attack (suppose that I don't use any card in my hand to increase the odd of revealing any card) is:



I've added Temporal Cascade as a way to empty all players' hands and graveyards on early turns. Hopefully it'd be as good as destroying lands. It's also a card for me to have a chance retrieving cards from the graveyard when I need to do so for whatever reason.

The problem with cards like Mizzix's Mastery and Spelltwine is that if they're the first cards you reveal on the first attack, you might not be able to continue attacking. I've already got enough pieces in the deck to make combo works, so I wouldn't use them. They're still usable and can be used to replace Capture of Jingzhou for budgeting.

Take out the creatures and put in Proteus Staff. Lets you rearrange your library however you want, essentially making it gg (enter the infinite omniscience)

Those creatures are too good! There's no way I'm dropping them. Moreover I don't need to rearrange the deck for the combo to work

I feel like those who suggest the Staff combo fundamentally don't understand the level of disruption that this deck needs to play through and how difficult that would become without the creature package.

How does the deck handle a meta that plays a lot of control, mana denial, land destruction, etc? I run a list that is extremely close to this one, and it's only downfall is its inconsistency of resolving Narset in time to swing. Even with the high level of rocks, deck manipulation and powerful combo effects, it's one downfall seems to be its ability to resolve AND swing. Decks like Zur, Derevi, etc can all fight the entire board, whereas Narset seems dependent and centered around it's singular goal of swinging. Do you find that you can fight through those types of meta decks? Or does it become a board state where you are watching everyone around you fight while you hope to get a chance to cast narset for a 2nd 3rd, 4th time etc?

Erutan9 you're rolling the dice if you play her without backup and she can't generally come down early enough and swing on the same turn any more post-mulligan change to do the "all in" strategy any more like she used to. I think the deck is better playing with some wheels, a few more interaction pieces, and a broader package to play through control such as creature package with Grand Abolisher, Chain of Vapor, cheap counter spells (Pyroblast, Swan Song et al.), etc. To run these, you sacrifice some of the more fringe-y mana rocks and the other glass acceleration to go all in in order to be able to respond to Stax, other players' combos, and other players' disruption. The deck becomes slower, but more resilient.

The question of whether you want to go fast to outrace other fast combo decks or to be able have protection when your opponents play lots of counterspells really depends on the meta. You can try to adapt to the meta by adjusting the ratio of ramps, haste, and anticounter spells.

Thanks, that's all really helpful. My meta is pretty versatile and it usually comes down to people waiting for me to pick Narset to play and then just trying to pick a commander to hate her off the board haha. I switched sleeves and waited for everyone else to pick last night and I combo'd out like 4 times lol. I put some minor deck manipulation in and put a few cheap counter spells in like you suggested, but overall she still seems stable enough to play through some minor hate.

Any suggestions on budget alternatives to ravages, capture, and mana drain? Is running the aggravated assault + sofaf combo good? I put swan song instead of mana drain to serve as another counter but it feels like just putting another mana rock would make it better.

There are some stuff you might consider using: cataclysm, winter orb, static orb, swan song, pyroblast, red elemental blast, silence, dispel, flusterstorm, and stitch in time... those are cards that into mind so far. If you asked for my opinion, I wouldn't use that combo in this deck.

Hey, so I saw this deck and think it is neat, but I'm not super familiar with the specific rulings of MTG so I ask this:

With the Enter the Infinite win is it you don't lose? When you attack with Narset and have only Omniscience in library she has to Exile 4 cards, but you have only one, so when she goes to the 2nd exile card won't the game state say you have no cards in library and force a lose? Same think with scroll rack and why that trigger to restock library won't kill either.

I got into Commander with Narset as my first commander deck. I retired it, because even a super-budget version was too powerful and unfun to play against (at least in my playgroup). But it's still my alltime favourite of all the decks I built and got back to her recently and set the goal to make a pimped up (foil and streamlined) version over the long run!I really like your deck and I try also to go for a "competetive" route but maybe with a focus on a superfriends theme. It won't maybe that straight forward but I think this way the deck can stand on itself powering out many planeswalker either with narset on the front or by simply ramping up and playing high impact walkers like Ugin/Karn/Elspeth to control the board (looking at Deploy the Gatewatch). And with the basic theme of extra turns, I can tick up the walker to use their ultimates (like Chandra, Torch of Defiance) or simply win the same way like you. It is honestly a more playful version but still quite competetive I think! Any thoughts on that?

ccevik my "casual" (more like 75%) version of Narset runs super friends and no extra turns/combats. The only walkers in my competitive version are JTMS and Chandra, ToD. Most of the others are either too slow or not impactful enough in a competitive list. Even Chandra is on the edge, but is a pet card of mine that I think fits well in the deck's shell. Those spots you are using on PWs are just too valuable for other things to enhance the speed of the deck. Narset, however, is just a powerhouse by herself and casting stuff for free will always be good, so even your list is likely to do well against the average EDH player. Against other competitive lists (what you'd ideally want to face with a competitive Narset deck or it isn't really a challenge), a PW version will likely get crushed. It's just too much inefficiency with the exception of a few viable PWs.

Yo, just wondering if anyone had suggested adding Isochron Scepter and Paradox Engine yet? It's sort of jank, but with Desperate Ritual or Pyretic Ritual you can make infinite mana... and if I'm not mistaken you could Mind's Desire to play your whole deck at that point.

I would consider Elite Arcanist, Isochron Scepter, and Whispersilk Cloak for this deck. Not all ideal but they can definitely help with continued use of one-of spells.

i run a much different (admittedly less competitive) Narset deck. omen machine and portcullis makes for excellent board control. sorry don't know how to tag specific cards. new to TCG

I had to take the time to comment about how cool this deck is. I never looked into why Narset was a high tiered commander, but after play testing this I have found out why. She is brutal.

For anyone confused about why Narset is so powerful, give this build a play test. +1 from me, man.

I got a question regarding the 'competitive' part of this deck. In which playgroup do you play this deck and what are your results?

How would you rank your deck in comparism to other competitive (cEDH) decks? For example: in this quite popular list [List - Multiplayer] EDH Generals by Tier Narset is ranked a tier 2 commander...

I'm thinking that why they rated Narset as a tier 2 was because they used a quite weird build as a reference deck. Mine would have been a tier 1.5 deck considering that it's faster than most tier 2 decks while less consistent than tier 1s. As you may have noticed, I ran very few removals and counterspells, that's because I have to maintain the amount of extra turn/combat or land wipe in order to have the chain reaction going. That might be quite a big problem this deck have, which is being less interactive. However, in order to compensate this, I tried to ramp as much as possible to make this deck a totally proactive deck. You wanna be the one who's asking questions instead of providing answers.

Commander is a singleton format meaning that you can only have one of every non basic land card.

Well i have made my own custom categories before, however I did not know you could list the same card under multiple categories and it wouldn't count an additional copy.

The problem with this deck is that it can't do a whole lot with countering Narset. If it is up against another competitive deck or any deck most of the time, she is way too slow.
