General Strategy

Combo Tree of Redemption and Assault Formation for early damage.

Use the abundance of defender cards for Overgrown Battlement's mana ability, to ramp up to our heavyweight, Hydra Broodmaster.

Defender

I chose defender because it gives a lot of strong early-game blockers,

Once Assault Formation is on the field, my blockers become far more useful.

Abzan Beastmaster gives me good card draw, which is essentially guaranteed once I get a boosted Tree of Redemption.

Maybe Board

Alpha Authority: Protect my important combo pieces.

Feed the Pack: Combos well with the defender cards with high toughness.

Garruk's Horde: This deck is over 1/3 creatures.

Quest for Renewal: There are lots of creatures tapping for mana and life, so this will assist Tree of Redemption.

Sandwurm Convergence: Negates flying, and gives free tokens.

Sight of the Scalelords: Boost all attacking creatures.

Traproot Kami: Anti-flying card that helps boost Overgrown Battlement.

Colossus of Akros: Good finisher, gets monstrous easily thanks to all the ramp. I'm just biased against it because it's not green.

If you want to make this deck more budget, replace Umbral Mantle with something in the maybeboard.
