Sultai Squirrels (Cazur & Ukkima EDH)

Commander / EDH BUG (Sultai) Counters Squirrel Tokens

Paeldroth

Hey y'all!

Here's a deck I crafted to utilize the bump in power to Squirrel Tribal that Modern Horizons 2 has given us. While I do like Chatterfang as a commander, I was actually helping someone look into how to play Cazur & Ukkima and stumbled onto the idea there. Once MH2 dropped, I decided to dig in.

The purpose of the deck is to focus on Cazur, with Ukkima as a pleasant but not required component. The idea is to overwhelm with Squirrels! As each Squirrel lands a nibble, they get a +1/+1 counter. Now either I continue to take larger and larger bites, yielding a win through Overwhelming Stampede or Strixhaven Stadium depends. I will need to hit them! So cards like Combine Chrysalis , Drey Keeper , and Access Tunnel will give some form of evasion. Chatterfang, Squirrel General and Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth also gives me some evasion.

Card draw comes from sources like Ohran Frostfang , Toski, Bearer of Secrets , Nikara, Lair Scavenger , Pact of the Serpent , Shamanic Revelation , and Momentous Fall . Ramp in the form of Pitiless Plunderer , Three Visits , Harvest Season , and Growing Rites of Itlimoc  / Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun .

Some interesting things can also happen in this deck:

  1. With The Ozolith , I can store all of my +1/+1 counters. So I can utilize sacrifice outlets, or one swift Culling Ritual , then drop Ukkima, Stalking Shadow on the board. Once Ukkima swings and deals combat damage to a player, that could be lights out. But if not? Sac Ukkima and slap them out that way.
  2. The flipside of Augmenter Pugilist   ( Echoing Equation ) can, for a short while, turn the Chatterfang/Yavimaya pairing into an all-out Squirrel assault.
  3. Chatterfang and Pitiless Plunderer can go infinite.

All in all this is a fun deck I'm trying to make somewhat aggressive without being the archenemy. I could always use suggestions, though, so lemme have 'em!
