Testing Vs "Gauntlet Deck" Report —Jan. 26, 2018
So tonight a buddy of mine played a "gauntlet deck" that I printed out that had 12 different modern decks lists on it. He played 6 of the 12 decks on it at least 3 times each and we even did some sided games.
He played: GR Valakut Eldrazi Tron Humans Jeskai Geist Burn Affinity
As I expected my deck did well verse the slower decks, Valakut, Tron and surprisingly Jeskai Geist (except when Geist got out). Valakut and Tron rely on their special lands a lot and my decks loam package was very impactful. Valakut was the worst presided games out of the 3 but I was able to have a decent sided games verse it.
My friend drew amazing with Affinity and beat me most of those games, even after sideboard. And then Burn is just really tough. I need to find some better life gain cards for these match ups. But the worst beatings by far were by the Humans deck. That deck is for real. I've heard it's good but I've never faced it before with any of my decks. The only game I won was when he drew mostly lands and aether vials. I may have to find room for a damnation or 2.
All in all, I was happy with how the deck did. My friend didn't think it was doing so well but I think for a home brew and also me not having the greatest draws I was happy with the performance. But it's still being worked on and soon I'll find the right numbers. I was thinking of trying to fit a couple walkers like Ashiok or Lilly the last hope in the side or main deck to have more win cons and also have attackers attack them instead of my life total always. We will see!
