Another heavy late-game hitter —Oct. 21, 2013

I feel that Vexing Devil hasn't contribute too much with my matches, luckily the theros expansion has good gruul cards. I replaced 3 Vexing Devils with 2 Xenagos, the Reveler and a Mistcutter Hydra for a late game hitter that would be hard to kill, even against counters and blue users.. I don't like blue.. lol..

@LeaPlath - thanks for the suggestions..

@pheonix_222 - actually, we play Modern legal in the shop I'm playing, and I still can use Bloodbraid Elf .. as long as I don't use it in a Jund deck.. It would still count as a sanctioned tournament.. As long as it isn't a live tournament..

@LastEdegy - Well then I hate to say it but your shop has been playing it wrong this whole time and your judges should been notified as soon as you dropped Bloodbraid Elf .

However I get the impression that your judges let you get away with this because you think it's a legal play. I've asked Judges in the meantime and If it's a sanctioned Magic event, the banned list in meant to be adhered to, no exceptions.

If it's casual then you guys are free to play as you like, but even at FNM, Bloodbraid Elf should stay in the deckbox.

@pheonix_222 - I'm not the only only who thinks it's a legal play, that's why we didn't banned it in our Modern FNM.. Maybe we could adhere to it.. I may replace it in the meantime..

The idea is that the shops or players don't get to decide on a case by case basis what is legal; Wizards sets the official banned list and all sanctioned tournaments are expected to adhere to it. It doesn't matter what deck you play it in, if you are playing a sanctioned modern tournament then Bloodbraid Elf is not a legal card to play.

@pigfish320 - oh well.. that hasn't been the case in the past months.. if it will be banned, it has been good while it lasted.. won some, lost some..

Ghor-Clan Rampager is a pretty decent blood braid elf replacement. It may not be hasty but a very good body for cost and utility.

Love this deck! :D Was going to suggest Boartusk Liege but I see it's in your Maybeboard already.. Soooooo, what about some Vexing Shusher ? +1 from me, this is going in my favorites folder!

I would try Bonfire of the Damned over Banefire . Yes, there is the chance you would hit the card like turn 3-5 so it won't do that much good, but if you're running against affinity decks, it will do wonders if you do miracle it turn 3 or 4. It's a nice control piece and I think it will do more good than Banefire

@LeaPlath - actually, Ghor-Clan Rampager is the card I will replace BBE in sanctioned tournaments..

@PriestessKikyo1 - thanks! =) my only problem with Boartusk Liege is that for 4cc card, Ghor-Clan Rampager is a better pump..And it has a surprise factor as well.. Vexing Shusher could be a good sideboard card, but I think my sideboard doesn't have enough space.. but thanks for the suggestions!

@MTdude - my problem with Bonfire of the Damned is the price.. Its too expensive.. If ever the price drops especially after it rotates out of standard format, I may consider buying and putting it in my sideboard to replace Banefire whenever I encounter an affinity or tribal decks.. thanks for the comment!

Wizards of the Coast would like to have a word with your shop, then.

@Formortiis - please read the comment stream of my deck..I just didn't want to change the description of my deck.. Obviously, I'm using it for casual play only..

LastEdegy says... #13

@KrzychuV25 - this is not a banned deck, just the BBE.. read the comment stream to get updated on what I use on which play, casual or sanctioned.

Zephiel says... #14

No, KrzychuV25 is right. This is a banned deck. If your LGS is letting you use this in sanctioned tournaments, then they should be banned from holding such tournaments as I don't want someone getting PP off a non-legal deck.

LastEdegy says... #15

@Zephiel - I get what you mean, but please read the comment stream.. I only use BBE in casual plays, i replace them with ghor-clan rampager when it comes to sanctioned tournaments.. don't look at the fact that I use BBE as the cover of this deck with the format as modern, not casual.. And I don't feel like changing the description of this deck, so if u feel that I disregarding the rules of wizards by not playing BBE in sanctioned tournaments, then complain to them.. be my guest..

It's not my responsibility to read the comment stream. It's YOUR responsibility to keep the description and board up to date, however. As you have not, the deck is still illegal regardless of what you claim.

It's your responsibility to update the deck description. It's not a poster's ability to read the entire comment stream. Ergo, this deck is still illegal.

July 29, 2013 7:06 p.m.

@LastEdegy: Very few people are going to read the entire comment stream before posting. If you want to address certain points, put them in the description. Otherwise, don't be surprised that people tell you the deck is illegal with Bloodbraid Elf .

@Epochalyptik - hmm.. good point, well.. I'll just let them tell me that Bloodbraid Elf is banned, even though I'm not using it in sanctioned tournaments anymore..

Bloodbraid Elf is illegal in Modern.

@TherealSpeetlebeetle - I know.. I'm not using BBE on sanctioned tournaments.. just for casual play.. I'm using her as my featured card, anyway..

Lands that enter tapped can really screw over an aggro deck, unless you have nothing to play, in which case you kept a terrible hand. That said, the one Treetop Village seems like it slows you down, as does a hand with only Rootbound Crag . For that reason I think that Copperline Gorge and Grove of the Burnwillows could replace both the aforementioned cards, perhaps a 3-2 split. Also Arc Trail can have problems of not having legal targets, against maybe a control player, and then you have a two mana Shock . I'd play another Rancor and another Boggart Ram-Gang over it. Just my opinions, and also dependent on your meta.
