Post-Eldrazi Winter Storm

Modern Combo Competitive Storm UR (Izzet)

Sideboard

Storm is a fast combo deck that aims to cast as many spells as it can (usually at least 20) and then cast a card with storm, which then copies itself to kill the opponent. This is a list that I am fairly comfortable playing, but I need a little
help with the sideboard as the meta is pretty diverse right now.

The Deck:

The deck is mainly composed of three types of cards: rituals, cantrips and enablers.

RITUALS:

4x Desperate Ritual

4x Pyretic Ritual

These are most basic and are essential to storming off, as they allow you to generate extra mana immediately, so you can cast all your spells.

4x Manamorphose

The most important card to have when you are going off is manamorphose. The card is obviously for this deck as it is free in all senses of the word. it replaces itself in mana and in cards, but the only it is so essential is that it allows you to convert all the red mana (and believe me, I've gotten up to 20 red and blanked because I had no blue) into blue mana to cast other spells. Without morphose, the deck basically wouldn't work.

CANTRIPS:

Cantrips are cards (most of which are blue) that allow you to do something, and also draw you a card, or just allow you to look at cards and draw one of them.

4x Serum Visions

This card shouldn't need much explanation, as it is easily the best cantrip in modern. It allows you to see three cards out of your deck to find the cards you need. Boom.

4x Sleight of Hand

I originally didn't have this card in the list; I obviously didn't know what I was doing when I started. While slight of hand gives you less "advantage", it is usually efficient enough because you are usually digging for a few specific cards, and this is usually good enough to find at least one of them.

Gitaxian Probe

This card is a no-brainer in storm. It is a card that is free in mana and also replaces itself with an additional card. Possibly the most notable thing about this card is that it allows you to check to make sure the coast is clear to go for it.

Two important Notes about using probe:

1) Never go through 2 probes on turn one unless you absolutely need a land.

2) Always cast your probe on the turn you plan to go off or need to go off, so you don't get plow out with something like Surgical Extraction. Story time, saved myself by probing first against affinity because I probed down to 7 and say he had a Sudden Shock and a Galvanic Blast.

Thought Scour

This card is especially good in grindy matchups, like Jund and Abzan, but bad in agro matches because it only actually lets you see one card that you can see where it goes. Basically it means you get to get more cards for later flashing back and for pyro ascension, but in the mean time it is only replacing itself, not letting you scry two like on Serum Visions. But in those grindy matchups, over time it gets good value because it can mill a Past in Flames or Desperate Ravings , getting well more than its value.

Desperate Ravings

This card on the surface looks terrible, and occasionally it is. You can singlehandedly lose games to a unlucky discard. But you are crazy and playing storm! Don't be afraid of being unlucky, which is why you play this card over Faithless Looting. Also looting is card DISADVANDAGE, so it is not a cantrip. Ravings usually costs 1 mana because of electromancer, so it is usually not even a mana disadvantage. This is part of the very important package you have against G/B decks because making you discard it is so bad to make you pitch it with a Thoughtseize, but you can get a lot of advantage with it. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you copy a ravings with a Pyromancer Ascension, you may cast any instants you want with the other copy on the stack, especially like Manamorphose to make sure you don't discard them.

ENABLERS:

Goblin Electromancer

Goblin electromancer is a pretty easy thing to explain. It makes your rituals into Dark Ritual and makes it really easy to start gaining mana. He can also attack. Never forget that. He is the only creature in the deck and is susceptible to removal, but normally post-board, they board out what they can in Path to Exile and other types of removal.

Pyromancer Ascension

This is the reason storm functions, and an active pyromancer ascension is usually just game. Since it is an enchantment, most decks lean on hand disruption such as Thoughtseize and Thought-Knot Seer so you should always try to have a back-up in your hand. The other problem with hand disruption is that you can always top-deck an ascension as well. The other card to be aware of is Abrupt Decay, but other than that your ascensions are safe.

Updates Add

So the last pyro ascension is so I don't have 2 and have them stuck and can't get enough counters. Thought Scours are faithless looting, that I like better, and their just isn't room for the sleight of hand. NO NIVIX CYCLOPS. End of story. Maybe some of the looting in the board.
