Stop for me, it's the Claw!

Commander / EDH* Dragons Mono-Red

This deck can win consistently 2 turns after Zirilan is played, assuming he can stick. Obviously, this is a big "If". There are a few ways to speed it up, mainly haste enablers. Remember to claw during an opponent's end step to have 2 dragons out at once. Scourge of the Throne being one, generally, or Utvara Hellkite.

Occasionally the deck can combo out. Worldgorger Dragon is a prime example. Flameshadow Conjuring or Apocalypse are fun with him. I'm thinking of tuning the deck to be more dedicated combo, but I don't think I can get the speed necessary to force worldgorger through disruption, given the 5CMC commander (anyone know of a monored Silence?) so that will have to remain a sometimes-plan, useable only when people aren't holding up answers. This is also why I don't run more board wipes. If the deck can regularly do something, the meta will plan for it. Apocalypse always comes out of left field.

The standard gameplan remains dragon agro. Tutors are best but the mana accel allows some hardcasting if you need it. Past that, steal opposing beaters and answers, then sacrifice them. Threaten effects also untap Claw if you need more tutors.

Any dragon with an activated ability or ETB can be a wincon with worldgorger combo, as can Zirilan himself, but it requires some priority nonsense. Besides those, Dragon Tyrant, Scourge of the Throne, and Moltensteel Dragon are the best finishers. Hellkite Tyrant, Steel Hellkite and others are toolbox answers.

Cards on the chopping block for cuts:

  • Utvara Hellkite. Assuming your game is 2-4 players, you rarely need to go long enough for this sort of value to matter. But it is quite useful in the 6mans.
  • Shivan Hellkite is either redundant (I can kill any dozen ways when comboing) or a slow value piece (kill problems over a few turns). Kept in because sometimes you have a lot of mana and need to shoot things.
  • Warstorm Surge. Slow value, 6CMC requiring hardcast. Do you see a pattern?
