This deck began with the kernal of Liliana's Reaver.

With a macro-view, I wanted to cash in on on-hit effects. As such, I stuffed the deck with unblockable swingers. My initial thought for the commander was Mirko Vosk, but I also had Sygg floating around, and I felt he would serve much better. He was cheaper, rather unassuming, and he could get me more cards. My instincts have run true; Sygg is a much better commander. So far, in my play group, he gets very little hate, so I get lots of cards. For good reason, I suppose, my many unblockable creatures get blown up instead!

This deck utilizes two branches of control: bounce and discard (with a hint of mill). Ideally, I will force my opponent to discard important cards. Bouncing is a solid work around for indestructible and can even serve to handle enchantments and artifacts. For that reason, my bounce spells deal with permanents rather than specifics, such as creatures. One notable bounce card, which I haven't seen in play yet, is Dissipation Field. It's relatively cheap, and I hope it is extremely effective and deterring and controlling my opponents. One of those methods will allow me some time to get my deck going.

I've mentioned the tiny unblockable swingers. To buff them, especially to deal 3 damage for a Sygg trigger, I gave them shiny weapons. Equipment are more versatile than enchantments, which was my biggest factor for going the equipment route. The equipment primarily buff my creatures, but some of them enhance card draw. I can loot with Mask of Memory or simply draw with Mask of Riddles. Bident of Thassa is especially fantastic because every creature that deals combat damage to an opponent gets you cards. I haven't used its secondary ability yet, but I could see uses in forcing an opponent to attack if they have a weak board state or especially in a multiplayer game. Cranial Plating is very useful because it builds off of the other equipment/artifacts I have in play. Empyrial Plate, ideally, will give a larger number to my creatures because I'll draw a lot of cards. Trepanation Blade is great, except sometimes I hate the card. It's very fickle because I often mill exactly 1 card, a land, and the card isn't very useful, but every now and then I get a big payoff. I will keep the card because milling out my opponent is a secondary win condition. There are a lot of great equipments out there, and I don't have many of them, so that will be an area for major deck growth. Some or all of the swords will be welcome additions.

I chose most of the creatures to already possess unblockable simply so it was one less factor to concern myself with. Unfortunately, that means they aren't overly powerful. A central goal of the deck is to start swinging by turn two, if possible. Swing regardless of triggering Sygg or having good effects in place. Just damage the opponent. Those that are not unblockable have nice hit effects, such as Liliana's Reaver or they can be really useful, such as Thassa, God of the Sea. She also offers indestructible, free scry, and can make another creature unblockable. She was not in the deck originally, and I'm quite pleased with her performance now. My original conception of the deck included Eldrazi and Ingest, but that proved to be clunky. There are a few holdovers, but mostly that idea has been scrapped.

Another factor of the deck is graveyard recursion in the form of shuffling my graveyard into my library. Currently that includes Perpetual Timepiece and Cranial Archive. I really want Elixir of Immortality to be included. I think that will be enough, and it will remain in artifacts to boost cranial plating.

As far as strategy, swing swing swing. Don't be afraid to let loose. Surprisingly, the baby attackers create a lot of hate, and people decide to bash on this Sygg deck. But really, I think it's because it comes out, guns blazing, and nothing is safe: life, hand, and deck. Don't even be afraid to discard your own cards, as you can likely get them back, whereas your opponent may be unable to or struggle to do the same. One ability I may add more of is Inspired. I find that it fits the theme of this deck well, as everything is unblockable or can become unblockable. Through Inspired with cards such as Servant of Tymaret, life could also be regained. Sangromancer, when in play, has proven very useful for quick survivability (life gain from discard). Ideally, I control the board well enough that I don't take too much damage. You have to bounce judiciously, but otherwise discard and mill as heavily as possible.

There's plenty of work to be done on this deck, so I will update as things change!

Updates Add

I ordered a bunch of cards I thought would be useful for the deck. Those were specters and more equipment. A secondary goal of this update was to solidify the manabase.

For specters, I think I ordered almost all that I could, but only selected a few to put in the deck. They force opponents to discard with combat damage, which is useful, and they also fly, which was another important consideration. Blizzard Specter has the option of discarding or bouncing a permanent, which fits the control aspect of the deck. Hypnotic Specter forces a random discard, which is always better than a blanket discard. Needle Specter has wither, which might knock down a larger creature and it forces discarding based on the amount of damage it does. That is a fantastic specter. Hollow Specter forces a variable reveal (an X cost), so you can find what you want your opponent to discard or you can stay small depending on how things are looking. Nightveil Specter exiles cards, which is great, and if your opponent is U/B, you have the opportunity to play those cards, as well. Scythe Specter is a 6 cost specter, which makes me nervous, but it can be a heavy hitter if things are working in your favor.

Because I was focusing on equipment, I chose to add specters to replace most of the discard spells I had. They can interact with the equipment or act as blockers (especially flying creatures. Those were proving difficult).

For equipment, I opted for on-hit effects, as I could. I'm still pondering sword purchases, but I'm not sure if they're worth the hate I would receive. Specter's Shroud forces a discard, Sword of the Animist gets me land, Quietus Spike will slash my opponent down to size, Rogue's Gloves means more drawing, Golem-skin Gauntlets is spectacular given the significant position equipment plays in the deck, Trusty Machete is to trigger Sygg, and Inquisitor's Flail will up my damage. I also added Masterwork of Ingenuity and Sculpting Steel to, ideally, mimic my equipment, but maybe an opponent will have a juicy choice.

As for my manabase, I dug out some dual lands and some mana rocks. I also added in the U and B artifact lands on the off-chance they are in play and cranial plating is in play. That was why I added Darksteel Citadel, as well. A final addition, landwise, was Rogue's Passage, just for another option to make something unblockable and Buried Ruin, to bring an artifact to my hand from my graveyard (likely a graveyard shuffle).

One important addition is Elixir of Immortality. That brings me to 3 graveyard to library artifacts. This deck isn't afraid to ditch cards or mill itself (and my play group really likes mill as well) so these are useful.

There are a few cards I'm still pondering about in this deck. Dimir Doppelganger is the most obvious question. I'm hoping, as I mill and force my opponent to discard, the Doppelganger will have some juicy targets to mimic. We'll see if this is useful. Otherwise, I'll switch it out for something else. I mean, I have more specters at the very least.

For the future: -I'm thinking about a sword or two -Some enchantments sound appealing: Coastal Piracy and Larceny and/or Megrim and Liliana's Caress. -Better lands. I definitely want a shock and a filter, but those are pricey.
