Getting Ready for KTK/BFZ Standard with a RUG Control Brew!

-=-=--=-=--=-=--=-=-

Temur is pretty cool, especially aggro, but what happens when one runs control? Well, many ideas can be derived from the blue side of / Control (Counters, Card Advantage, etc...), and credit is given where credit is due, so I'd like to give a hand to Spootyone's

It used to be a control deck, and I must give credit for inspiration, but now it has hence fallen into the savage hands of aggro. Temur seems quite resilient, since it has some very powerful creatures, while still having lots of burn and counters.

Just some Music to Enjoy while Reading...

So, I feel like I now should explain the choices:

  • Anticipate: This card is great, as it digs for needed cards, ranging from Thunderbreak Regent to Silumgar's Scorn to even lands! The sheer power of this card is HUGE, as it's a slightly worse Impulse, and some of our older players might remember how THAT went...

  • Dig Through Time: A better anticipate, but requires more fixing and is useless in the early game. Both these dig spells combined create a web that can let me dig for virtually any card I need, which is very helpful.

  • Dragonlord Atarka: Huh, well who knew control ran 8/8's? Well, now we do. Get ready for a can of hardcore ass-woopin' to all dem Siege Rhinos out there.

  • Haven of the Spirit Dragon: Although I rarely review lands, this I felt earned a worthy spot in the description. Someone kill your precious Ugin, the Spirit Dragon? have no fear, Haven of the Spirit Dragon is here! It lets you recycle your dragons at the cost of 2 mana and a land. Very much worth it for pseudo-reanimating Atarkas n' shit.

  • Icefall Regent : Locks an opponent's creatures out of the game, while having 'psudo-hexproof'. It's also a fucking ice dragon. And it's blue. And it's an ice dragon.

  • Lumbering Falls: Well, it's kind of a creature, right? It's mostly here for fixing, but with the added benefit of sneaking in some late-game damage if needed. Seems good though, and they're not too expensive either.

  • Reality Shift: IT SAYS EXILE. THAT'S ALL WE CARE ABOUT AT THIS POINT.

  • Sarkhan Unbroken: Why I run green. I have 3, so I use 3. He will usually hit play around turn 5-6, spawn a dragon, draw a card, spawn another dragon, and from then on simply gain you tempo through card draw or hit a T7 Ugin. Sweeter than a Leprechaun's Lucky Charms.

  • Scatter to the Winds : Cancel but better. Dissolve but worse. I guess you have to make do with what you have...

  • Silumgar's Scorn: Pretty much a Counterspell for standard dragon decks. Definitely a great card. Even without a dragon it usually works.

  • Stubborn Denial: Elspeth? Nope. Crux of Fate? Nope. Treasure Cruise? Nope! Really nice for the surprise factor, and can also often counter T2 hand disruption.

  • Thunderbreak Regent: The backbone of this whole deck; it is an on-curve beater with the added bonus of protecting your dragons!

  • Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: HOLLY MUTHERFUKKING SHIEET. This guy's just fucking awesome. He should have certainly been named "Ugin, the Savage Anal-Rapist".

Hope This has been helpful for future reference and assistance on my deck. Thank you for your time and recommendations!
