This is a variation on Justin Gregory's list: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1636357#paper . One main change is swapping Orzhov Enforcer with Gutterbones . Offense is defense in this current meta, and additionally, 1-drops are important. Gutterbones also interacts with Judith, the Scourge Diva better (Enforcer's spirit token won't trigger her pings), and if you're creating Priest of Forgotten Gods 's BB with no plan for it, you can at the very least return Gutterbones to your hand. The other change I'm excited about is the addition of Siege-Gang Commander , as it creates a burst of sacrifice options.

Priest of Forgotten Gods is the main engine. Every little part of its ability is useful. The BB created becomes incredibly threatening with Midnight Reaper out and I have been able to ramp into a turn-3 Rekindling Phoenix off it. The card advantage doesn't need to be explained, the deck runs powerful and efficient cards. The 2 life is a great clock and Judith, the Scourge Diva turns it into 4. The edict is also nifty, if not a little unsuccessful in the face of the powerful Azorius Aggro deck. Mono Blue Tempo is also somewhat resistant to the edict, yet I have sniped a Siren Stormtamer and other problematic creatures with it on occasion. The edict shines in matchups like Gates Aggro and Izzet Drakes.

A brewing consideration: cards with Afterlife feel quite powerful in concert with Priest of Forgotten Gods 's proc. I've tried a version with Rekindling Phoenix replaced with Orzhov Racketeers . While a largely unimpressive creature, the Afterlife 2 clause is great for the deck. However, the clocking potential of Phoenix along with its synergy with Priest made this iteration weaker. Until a similar clock gets printed that leaves some tokens on death, it shall remain. I'm brewing an Abzan version to have Seraph of the Scales in this role, but will be disappointed to lose Judith, the Scourge Diva and Lava Coil .

Like most midrange decks, the sideboard has been in flux, and mostly over the 15th card. It has been a 3-way tie between Crushing Canopy , Kraul Harpooner and Collision / Colossus . Right now I've gone with the creature, as not only does the front half deal with the format's problem fliers (aside from a truly massive Hydroid Krasis ), the creature half provides solid blocking. The card feels under-costed. The absolutism of Crushing Canopy is appealing yet it is also the least efficient. Kraul Harpooner has been so helpful that I'm considering going down to one Carnage Tyrant to fit a second one. Carnage Tyrant is getting slowly pushed out of the meta with the presence of Kaya's Wrath and Gates Ablaze , yet there is no denying its dominance on certain board states.

Cindervines and Duress help against control and Nexus of Fate decks. I've been trying Thrashing Brontodon instead of the third Cindervines . While strictly worse against the aforementioned matchups, it is instead a hedge against the powerful artifacts and enchantments aggressive decks use for it blocks very well. For awhile I was running Reclamation Sage in this spot since its ETB trigger effectively dealt with the format's targeted removal. In the end, keeping one mana up was far easier than I imagined, and the aforementioned blocking was instrumental in many wins.

Cry of the Carnarium is what I use when Find / Finality is too slow, as it often is. It has corner advantages as well; I've been seeing more Arclight Phoenix decks lately. The sideboard is rounded out with my two favorite removal spells: Lava Coil for those death triggers and Moment of Craving against steep aggro. Vraska's Contempt was a major consideration yet I wanted to stay low to the ground and efficient. Bedevil was also tested and performed quite well, but after being difficult to cast on one crucial occasion, it was cut.
