Recently I have been playing a lot of Tutelage variations. So I decided to brew up a standard Azorius Control list instead.
The Card Advantage Suite
So as per most control decks I'll be needing card draw/selection/advantage. The cards I have put in for this job are: Anticipate + Ojutai's Command in the way of spells. All at instant speed which is important. I don't want to be taking a turn out JUST to draw cards.
Other forms of card advantage are in the form of planeswalkers including: Jace, Vryn's Prodigy
, Narset Transcendent + Jace, Unraveler of Secrets.
The Removal Suite
Secondly as any good deck needs is removal, these predominantly come in the form of white spells including: Stasis Snare + Declaration in Stone for exile effects and Immolating Glare with destroy effects. Additionally there is both Reflector Mage + Icefall Regent for bounce removal and tap down removal respectively.
The Counter Suite
Stopping things hitting the board is always good, for this I have a counter suite with: Negate, Void Shatter + Ojutai's Command.
The Actual Win Con Suite
Finally how I win the game, by the good old way of reducing my opponents life points to zero. This includes the use of three big flyers: Dragonlord Ojutai, Icefall Regent + Sphinx of the Final Word. All of these are huge, hard to deal with creatures. Combine these with Always Watching and my opponent should be hard pressed to deal with the air force. As particularly Dragonlord Ojutai will survive Languish and will have permanent hexproof.
Other Ideas
I have put Mirror Mockery in the sideboard with the idea of enchanting either Reflector Mage or Icefall Regent for turn after turn of bounce or tap down. But unsure how viable this is, or what (if anything) I can take out in place of it.
Any thoughts, ideas, musings are greatly appreciated.
