Stairwell to Heaven...or Hell (Muliplayer)

Casual Combo Multiplayer WB (Orzhov)

lpeters82

INTRODUCTION

This is a heaven and hell theme deck centering around the combo of Tombstone Stairwell and Altar of Dementia . The theme comes from Damnation and Wrath of God plus the interactions of the combo on cards like Soul Warden , Blood Artist , Suture Priest , and Teysa, Orzhov Scion . Basically, you gain life while your opponents loses life. It's the most fun in multiplayer games, though in those games you may want to main board additional Vengeful Dead , Zulaport Cutthroat plus your "fog" cards of Darkness and Holy Day . If a budget deck were desired you could make this deck cheaper by replacing Karlov of the Ghost Council with Ajani's Pridemate . Please comment with any feedback or ways to make the deck better or more fun.

EXAMPLE PLAY

Turn 1: Soul Warden

Turn 2: Altar of Dementia

Turn 3: Stinkweed Imp

Turn 4: Tombstone Stairwell

Turn 5:

  • If the Stinkweed Imp is not yet in your graveyard, sacrifice it to the Altar of Dementia prior to this turn. You can then dredge 5, for a net of 6 cards into your graveyard. If you have no other playable you can always replay the Imp for the same thing next turn. Things will typically spiral out of control from here as your Tombstone Stairwell is creating multiple 2/2 zombie token creatures, which can attack and then are sacrificed to the Alter of Dementia to mill, making your zombie hoard larger and larger each turn. Yes, tokens enter the graveyard. Pretty much everything you play after this point is just going to be adding fuel to the combo. Like dropping a Karlov of the Ghost Council and watching it grow into a 20/20 or dropping a Teysa, Orzhov Scion and sacrificing your 2/2 zombies for 1/1 angels only to then sacrifice your angles for more instant damage and life gain. By this time your Karlov of the Ghost Council is probably close to a 60/60. So when you are tired of attacking you can sacrifice it to mill out your final opponent's deck.

Discussion Topic

When the combo is established it helps to have some creature cards in your graveyard. My question, what is the best way of accomplishing this? Please comment below.

Memory Sluice

  • This seems to be a decent cheap option. I just wish it was an instant speed, so it could be played directly before my next turn. Based on the current makeup of the deck 4 random cards would yield 1.46 creatures, that is assuming these replace the current Stinkweed Imp .

Shared Trauma

  • I'm really only considering it because it's fun in a team formats where my teammates can also fill their graveyards. Other then that, I don't see any advantage.

Stinkweed Imp

  • The main advantage is that it's reusable, which is nice if your first draw is a total miss. Plus the fact that it is a 1/2 creature with flying and deathtouch that can also be sacrificed to the altar for an additional card. Assuming a sacrifice and dredge, your net result will on average be 2.4 creatures into your graveyard (2.0 without the sacrifice).
