Ok, this is my bet for Rivals of Ixalan Standard. Me and my friend are trying to go back playing but we are tired of the ridiculous expensive decks, so we are going rogue.

I found this deck idea from Jim Davis (source: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/904232#paper), who actually got third place in SCG Standard Dallas, and for a $40 deck this is more than impressive. In addition to that, one of my first decks that I built for FNM were the UW Heroic from Theros, that I loved playing, so this is like pure nostalgia for me.

As the time passes by I will add some analysis of this deck, but for the start (March 03) this deck greatest weakness looks like itself, with a percentage near of 33% of lands, 33% of enchantment and 33% of creatures (and based of past experiencies with UW Heroic) this deck is likely to flood with too much enchantment or too much creature in hand. Although I am trying to increase a bit the number of creatures and see what happens with that.

More news as it develops

I just got my first win with this deck. I finished top 1 in a 10 players FNM.

First Round:

UW Auras x Temur Energy. [2x0]

It wasn't a super competitive Temur Energy, but it got some stuff like Glorybringer and Chandra, Torch of Defiance. First game got some trades against a Longtusk Cub and a Whirler Virtuoso. The Whirler made it hard to go through with my flying Sacred Cat, as the game progressess I used two Baffling End that really shine as a removal. Second game wasn't a big deal, he kinda of flooded at the end of the game, and my ascended Slippery Scoundrel made the game very hard for the enemy.

Side out - One Sram and some auras (white and blue cartouche)

Side in - Slash of Talons and some protection

Second Round:

UW Auras x Grixis Control: [2x0]

Easy matchup. At first i was scared for a Settle the Wreckage, but soon I realised it was a grixis control. Got some problem with removals and a Gearhulk who was a heavy blocker. Vanguard of adanto and Slippery Scoundrel were the MVP making the oponent loose a lot of removals on the first and being unable to deal with the second.

Side out - All Baffling End and a Sram

Side in - Negate, Skywhaler's Shot and all my protections

Third Round:

UW Auras x BW Vampires: [2x1]

The hardest match. I got f*** up in the first game, unable to remove or make my way against the Sanctum Seeker. At the beginning of the first match i was able to make a bigger board, but i made some bad trades and decisions (I wasn't considering that he could make much more tokens as the game progressess), so he slowly took advantage.

Second game he got mana screwed with white mana and I had a wonderful start with Adanto, Sram and a couple of auras. At the third game it was a even matchup, but in the end, after a lot of trades and removals. I was able to buff my Slippery Scoundrel, and he didn't draw a Sanctum Seeker wich I think would make my game harder again.

Side out - one Sram (I think it is always a good thing to decrease him), one sacred cat and some auras (U/W Cartouche)

Side in - Authority of the Consuls and Slash of Talons (BEST REMOVAL EVER)

Fourth Round:

UW Auras x UBW Pharao's Gift (2x0)

My deck was faster and more evasive. In neither game he was able to fill the graveyard, and at some point he had to fatal push his own creature to remove my Slippery Scoundrel before she gets ascended. At game two I was able to ascend pretty fast and had a 6/6 Slippery Scoundrel with two draws at the combat damage every turn!

Side out - 1x Sram and 1x Sacred Cat

Side in - 2x Fragmentize

My conclusion is: Matchups against tokens and aggros looks to be pretty hard. But with the right plays and trade, the deck can make his way.

Against control matchups it can be a problem, the deck just need to keep up with the creatures and get the ascend or at least a lot of Adantos.

Another interesting thing. During the FNM I had to mull 3 times to 6, I won all of them. It is very important to have the right manas (one island and one plains at least), if you get this right, the deck can easily flow.

Changes to the deck after this FNM:

I am removing Failure/Comply. It was just a card I already had, and thought it could make its way in the deck - I was wrong. I also removed one negate, this deck doesn't need that much. Both of them from the side.

Moreover, I am adding one Dive Down to the side deck, Vraska's Contempt is our nemesis, it removes Vanguard of adanto, and our Scondrel before the ascension. In this scenario Sheltering Light doesn't help, so we need both!

Against the tokens matches, I am really thinking about Slaughter the Strong. But the thing i really am searching for is a way to deal with Sanctum Seeker and legion Liutenant
