More Equip Reductions —April 12, 2017

I think I was a bit hasty last time cutting Stonehewer Giant. Cheating equip costs is important in this deck as it's the most mana-intensive part of this build. Reducing equip costs is this deck's version of "ramp". I've made a few revisions with this in mind:

Kor Duelist ---> Stonehewer Giant: Having a double-strike weenie wasn't really necessary. Bringing the giant back gives me an extra tutor and way to cheat equip costs.

Auriok Edgewright ---> Auriok Windwalker: Similar to Kor Duelist, having a double-strike weenie was only ok. The windwalker acts as a second Brass Squire giving me a free equip each turn and can act as a better chump blocker.

Avacyn, Angel of Hope ---> Nahiri, the Lithomancer: The angels are working out great overall, but Avacyn is just too expensive for this deck. She's way off curve. With her removed, Sun Titan is now the most expensive card. Nahiri can recur equipment, cheat it from my hand, or create a token and immediately equip something to it. All of those abilities are useful.

Any thoughts on Inkmoth Nexus? A little costly on the money side and a little cheap on the game side but it could lead to some victories

Hmm, surprised you got rid of Stonehewer Giant, he tends to wrap up games for me... Usually I prefer the ultra-relevance of search & free equip over 1 card draw, especially when it is 1w cost, you should be able to cast an equipment that turn to still get your draw, & that is mana you won't be spending on equip... but there is that hefty 5cmc dead turn for him, so maybe that is where he has fallen short for you.

But you did title the change as "added aggro" - responder probably is better for that in many ways.

Gleeock, thanks for your feedback. Stonehewer Giant is a great card, but yeah... It was the waiting a turn before I could tutor that wasn't quite working in this deck. Plus I find my deck cycles so quickly that I don't need so many Tutors. He certainly wasn't bad but I felt like I needed more Aggro pressure.

I agree with you regarding Conviction. It is just too expensive for what it does.

lil_cheez I would definitely put inkmoth nexus in if I owned a copy. It is a bit expensive, but if I ever decide to pick one up, it could definitely go in here

I probably need to steal Armored Ascension from your list as well. Let me know how the alternate win cards work for you, last game I was finding myself fielding what few creatures I have but doing nothing with them since I wanted to be wacking people with commander dmg... May have just been a luxury or luck.... I've had extremely lucky Sram draws lately

Gleeock, the other creatures are working great for me. I hear what you're saying about commander damage though: the clock is so much faster hitting people with commander damage than regular combat damage.

The main thing I like about the angels is the lifelink. Even though this isn't a lifegain deck, lifelink has worked great by buying me time. I think lifelink is an underappreciated ability in voltron decks for that very reason. Basilisk Collar, Batterskull, Loxodon Warhammer, and Sword of War and Peace also help out in this regard.

Having said all that, I may cut back on the number of creatures/vehicles in the deck. I need enough that I'll see at least one per game but I don't need a ton. I've thought about cutting Untethered Express, Kor Duelist, and Auriok Edgewright.

How has Moonsilver Spear been working for you? That's one I'm curious to try out.

Surprisingly, Moonsilver Spear has been quite strong, primarily if I have something like Sig's aid in play to deal with the prohibitive equip cost. I was playing against Atraxa (worried about deathtouch) when I realized that spear also gives first strike.

But, yeah I may have to look @ more lifelink to buy time against the swing wide stuff. My meta tends to play very little smashy creature heavy stuff, & certainly not much creature heavy agro (1 Ezuri/infect)
