Commander / EDH*

This is my first EDH deck. I have a sphinx theme with a graveyard recurrance and draw thing going on for massive creature mass.

The sideboard are cards I own and was considering.

Ideas, criticisms and +1s are welcomed!

Thank you!

I am agonizing on what to cut here. How about some suggestions?

Sharuum is a fantastic general

Definitely cut mana myr, the effect is too small and too temporary for the format.

From the maybeboard, include diabolic tutor and Venser --> so he can blink Sharuum and other enterthebattlefield permanents.

Try looking at my deck:sharuum-esper-artifacts-edh-commander . It has more of a graveyard focus.

Thanks! 1 left to go. Who is the weakest link?!

Eh, just cut a land because I can't figure out which card is the weakest. What do you guys think?

March 24, 2011 11:50 a.m.

insertcleverid says... #5

Specifically thinking about dropping some 1, 2, 3 and 5-drops to make room for some 4 drops. This will tighten up my mana curve but I'm having a hard time finding options that fit into the deck. That, and I'd have a hard time letting go of any of these cards.

Also, I suspect mana curves are not as important to an EDH deck as a 60 card competitive deck, so I'm not sure if my efforts should be focused here.

Strategy and card suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

The format wants a larger impact per card.

Lose: Tidehollow Strix , Windwright Mage , Vedalken Certarch , Signal Pest , Zealous Persecution , Words of Worship , Golden Urn , Golem Foundry ,

Card advantage and being able to response to multiple/ various threats is a big part of the format. Add: Liliana Vess , boardwipe effects, point destruction, card draw, and tutors.

Also,counterspells are neat.

Liliana Vess is in. I have some points about some of the cards you mentioned, as I don't think they're weak.

I have what I think is quite a bit of draw, and Words of Worship is in there so that I can convert it to life if I need to. If it turns out to be weak I'll cut it of course.

Tidehollow Strix can kill anything attacking me, and I can bring it back with a lot of my drege cards.

Zealous Persecution can kill an army of tokens and serve as an alpha strike boost that I thought would be perfect for a format that sees huge creature mass.

But you're right about the rest. I really should throw some more tutors and counters in there. I need to edit it some.

Oh, and what is "point destruction"? I'm confused on that. Thanks!

Maybe I made up the term; referring to a spell that eliminates/disables a specific permanent threat. Ala, Go for the Throat :--- Saltblast , Snuff Out , Narcolepsy , Oblivion Ring , Swords to Plowshares , Mortify , Prison Term . EDH decks seem to benefit from being toolbox-like and having many responses.

Ionesco says... #10

Apparently 'spot removal' is the term.

March 28, 2011 12:08 a.m.

In my research I keep seeing Saltblast , Prison Term , Oblivion Ring and Mortify in EDH decks everywhere so I see that the toolbox approach must be the way to go. I have included all of the suggestions you made that I actually own and am on the lookout for more.

I spend a bit of time on gatherer looking for cards that would fit but what I can come up with are cards who's abilities I already know about and can search for. Thanks for the help and thanks again if there are any additional cards you can suggest!

March 28, 2011 2:13 a.m.

what I really need is Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas , but sadly I do not own one.

Disciple of the Vault , Unmake both good cards.

also i would suggest Demonic Tutor over Diabolic Tutor , it's better

No Vindicate ? It is the best "point destruction" "spot removal" or whatever you call it out there.

Enclave Cryptologist is weak compared to Archivist

Sculpting Steel creates an infinite combo with your general.

March 28, 2011 6:01 p.m.

I cannot afford Vindicate , although it is baller.

I definately need to pick up an Archivist .

I'm not sure how Sculpting Steel creates an infinite loop, but it is definitly a great combo card.

Thanks for the advice!

March 29, 2011 4:21 p.m.

I understand the Sculpting Steel infinite loop combo. I need to get either Disciple of the Vault or Soul Warden to make it useful. Are there other cards that will help?

crazyshark150 says... #18

Time Sieve and deck:thopter-assembly creates an infinite turns. and that combo with a Disciple of the Vault out on the field is infinite dmg. You should consider adding Master Transmuter , Kuldotha Forgemaster , Darksteel Forge and Fabricate . Also Tinker is banned in edh.

April 4, 2011 12:30 a.m.

Tinker is banned? I really need to look at the list, I supposed. Thanks for the heads up beofre I had a chance to take this to a tournament.

IMO, I would swap your general out for Sen Triplets over Sharuum the Hegemon . It still allows you to run with a sphinx theme, just with a more versitle general.

Also, have you considered adding Ghostly Prison into your build?

April 11, 2011 6:32 p.m.

Yeah, I do own Sen Triplets , and I have considered putting them in the general box. I built the entire deck around Sharuum the Hegemon with a heavy reliance on artifacts and the sphinx theme. Having Sen Triplets in there would make it a completely different deck. I might make a discard/direct damage deck around them, but this isn't that deck. I dunno, its worth a playtest, for sure.

Ghostly Prison is a must! Thanks for turning me on to it.

What I'm really looking for is some opinion on what my weakest cards are, because I have an enormous sideboard, that now will also contain Ghostly Prison Thanks

Obahai says... #27

What about ditching Clock of Omens for Ghostly Prison ?

April 12, 2011 6:11 p.m.

I don't know, man. Until you've played a field full of artifacts that you can practically tap and untap infintily at instant speed, you haven't lived. I've seen so many smiles turn upside down with that card on the board. lol.
