Spellpyre, The Nest Warden

Commander / EDH RUW (Jeskai, America)

palmerb2

This can be made using just the precon. You sell anything you aren't using and make this fun flicker/cycling deck. While this deck is a Gavi, Nest Warden deck, she is plan Z. Her token generation is nice, but that's about it. Her free cycle is decent on other players turns to flicker using Astral Slide and Astral Drift, Fluctuator is just better. This is a deck that has heavy emphasis on 2 of the main reasons one should be running cycling.

First reason to play cycling in commander is Fluctuator. The card is crazy good. you want to get it out as early as possible. while this deck CAN function without it, it is your bread and butter. If you notice, most of our cycling cards only cost 2 generic mana, which this essentially makes free. The other is Astral Slide and Astral Drift. We run only a few cards to flicker with these 2 cards, but they are worthwile and help gain a ton of advantage. We are in it to out-grind our opponents.

The namesake of this deck comes from the MVP of the deck Spellpyre Phoenix. From what i was seeing, people had negative things to say about this card, while praising that evil card Herald of the Forgotten. It should have been the other way around. The phoenix is everything we want in a cycling deck, as it can trigger off being flickered. The Herald doesnt trigger off of flickering and the creatures you can bring back with cycling are meh. Its not what the deck wants to do.
