Cool deck! +1

I notice that basically all your creatures are soldiers. Have you ever considered Preeminent Captain? With Anax and Cymede or Fabled Hero it can be a really awesome turn four. You could play Preeminent Captain on turn three, and then on turn four attack and flash in Anax and Cymede or Fabled Hero with all your mana left for removal and pump spells!

BobTheavgJoe, thanks for the suggestion. That's a good idea. The 3cmc slot is a little tight, but I like your idea of bringing out the other 3 drop with his ability. I'll see if I can work it in!

I agree, at three mana it is not ideal. But it might be worth play testing.

Also I find being tricky is always a good plan. ; )

Especially in a deck like this that really wants to catch the opponent with their pants down.

hmmm. IDK if you need almost every creature to have heroic. I know you are going for a theme, but still. Monastery Swiftspear could fit with all those instants. I don't like Madcap Skills here as its an enchantment and isnt as flexible as an instant

ApocryphalSaint - I do like Monastery Swiftspear. Damage on turn 1 is a plus. Madcap Skills, despite not being an instant, really excels in this deck, especially with your double strikers. I may consider trimming copies for something else if it helps the deck maintain speed and deadliness though.

-adaptive - Thanks man!

You should really run Coordinated Assault. It can get 2 heroic triggers for a single red mana, and can turn fights should your opponent choose to block. Beyond that, targeting Fabled Hero with it is a fun way to sneak in an extra 4 damage on that turn.

oh shit, you did. My bad.
Ignore me.

It's cool man. You're totally right. It's a fantastic spell in this deck. Even casting it turn 2 on a pair of 1 drops is pretty sweet.

Seeker of the Way might work in this deck, lifelink can be useful. Also, you could consider Defiant Strike (may seem not that powerful, but for 1 mana you can boost a creature and draw a card, which is very important in heroic decks), Titan's Strength (this plus Madcap Skills = a lot of damage, attached to Fabled Hero = kill) or Emerge Unscathed (cheap protection, double value due to rebound, something you need against removal).

Sagarys says... #12

In a deck that wants to win by turn 4, Seeker of the Way might be a little slow. Titan's Strength is always solid. Defiant Strike and Emerge Unscathed though, I like those. Especially the Rebound from Emerge. Two Heroic triggers for is pretty awesome. I may move some things around. I'd like to have a couple extra triggers.

BobTheavgJoe says... #13

While your moving things around you should try to make room for Lightning Bolt. No modern deck with red in it can be without BOLT.

Sagarys says... #14

I did actually consider Lightning Bolt. The reason I didn't include it was because Boros Charm offers a similar affect when going to the head, but also a ton of extra utility. After some playtesting, if I can open up some slots, I might consider a couple copies just for the extra speed/shiggles.

Sagarys says... #15

I will add it to the sideboard though!

BobTheavgJoe says... #16

Sounds good. If it's for the SB you might want Path to Exile instead though. It can deal with Goyf, Wurmcoil Engine, Kitchen Finks, and Scavenging Ooze which all could pose potential problems. I'll leave it up to you, but you can't go wrong with Path and Bolt. They are probably the two best 1 CMC cards in modern.

April 9, 2015 7:37 p.m.

Sagarys says... #17

Good idea, I'll just sideboard them both. Gods Willing was just a placeholder anyway. Thanks man!

Sagarys says... #18

Bolt is more useful if I need to race another aggro deck. Path will help with the roadblocks you mentioned. So both are totally relevant. Bolt has the added benefit that if, in a pinch, I need to trigger a heroic for say, Trample and I'm attacking so I'm protected by Iroas, I can nuke Anax and Cymede with it.

Why isn't Akroan Crusader your best 1-drop? You can win T2 with it!

Sagarys says... #20

You'll have to explain that one!

Ash Zealot, Champion of the Parish, Hero of Iroas, Mirran Crusader. I think these are all options.

Disfigure says... #22

Akroan Crusader + Titan's Strength + Assault Strobe + Mutagenic Growthx2 will give you an 8/5 with double strike and 4 1/1s with haste on turn two.

Mirrid says... #23

Have you considered Brute Force for the deck? It's literally a red Giant Growth and I think it's gonna be a bit better for you than Martial Glory, despite not targeting 2 creatures. It's simply faster and a less clunky draw if you, say, have WWR mana and want to cast a 2 drop and pump another guy.

JexInfinite says... #24

The question is: why are you not playing 4x Lightning Bolt mainboard?

Hero of Iroas ?
