I'm a big fan of the combo of Athreos, God of Passage + Kalastria Highborn - if you want my creatures to die, you have to pay five life each. I also like the Exquisite Blood + Sanguine Bond instant win. On top of that, the large amount of lifelink/extort means I can keep pushing closer to unlocking the Blood Baron of Vizkopa's ability for the win.

I splashed red for a while, but cut that out - the third color wasn't worth the extra vampires. I also added a set of Vampire Nighthawk, because I was really struggling against flying, and those are awesome creatures.

Meanwhile, I've added the Bloodflow Connoisseur + Undying Evil combo, which allows me to buff two creatures at once for the cost of a single black mana.

Weirdest Matchup Yet — May 21, 2014

Last night I played the strangest matchup I've ever gotten - the game lasted about 2 hours. I was playing against a monoblack lifelink deck, and played the Blood Baron of Vizkopa very early in the game, followed shortly by Exquisite Blood. My opponent's deck, being monoblack, was powerless to stop the Baron. However, my opponent had four Vampire Nighthawk, and kept buffing / preventing my removal / reviving them, while my own fliers failed to appear, which meant that we spent most of the game just gaining life. I was pulling ahead for most of the game, but he rarely dropped below twenty life, and usually quickly recovered it. There wasn't a particular card or play that won the game (although the late game Debt to the Deathless certainly did some work]]) - it was just a long game of attrition. I was eventually able to start using Dark Impostor to get more reliable removal, preventing his lifelink gains, and I ended the game with 208 life. Never before have I had to use a d12 to keep track of how many d20's I had full of life.
