Standard Mill

With a ton of flavor!

  • The only one sided boardwipe in standard costs too much, there must be a simpler way to do it...

Now there is! Polymorphist's Jest +Shipwreck Singer. The second part of the combo isn't even entirely needed since all of the "walls" in this deck have at least one attack.

Doesn't matter what your opponent is playing - if they're using creatures, chances are they will be frogs. And you know who loves frogs? The French, and Silumgar, the Drifting Death.

Dig Through Time helps to keep this deck up and running into the late game. using Phenax's ability it's easy to cast it for cheap if need be.

The Whip of Erebos is a fantastic way to provide this deck the healing it needs to mill out an opponent. It can also put phenax back on the field (for a turn) should he be countered or milled.

The one of Empty the Pits is just the late game finisher. I figured if I'm going to win using cards nobody else is willing to play I might as well go big or go home. Funny thing about this card is that just like Dig Through Time, it can be made much cheaper/powerful to cast by milling yourself beforehand.

Clever Impersonator is always good, especially if you copy a huge creature to mill with, funny thing about that is if you and your opponent both have 1 Dromoka, the Eternal, and they attack with their 5/5 at yours while you have a Shipwreck Singer, you can make their's a 4/4 and it will die, allowing you to keep yours. Besides that I've already used him many times to copy gods or their weapons. any Planeswalker would be lucky to have this many walls!

This deck is not a fast paced deck it takes, on average, 9 turns or so to mill an opponent out. The healing from the whip was instrumental in preventing pure aggro from ever beating this deck. It beat some midrange and lost to others.

The win ratio ended up being about 50/50 the 3-4 losses coming from land issues (which statistically shouldn't be THAT much of an issue, not with the scry I built in...) and 2 losses to a midrange that kept pressure up using card draw and huge G/R creatures to push through threats every turn I misplayed my counter spells and got beat by his boardstate.

For a fun combo deck designed to break the meta I'm pretty happy with this deck. It's fun to play, I'm just hoping that I can draw a bit better in my next FNM. With as much scry as I have built in I never expected to have as much trouble getting lands as I had. One game by turn 6 I had played 4 islands and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx after scrying 2 on turn 2... Seriously?
