Fun with Slivers in Commander

Slivers are one of the most Tribal of all Tribes in Magic, and this deck uses the variety of these creatures as an EDH toolbox, with answers for a wide number of situations. The most straight-forward way of playing this deck is to use Sliver Overlord to tutor out combo pieces and answers to threats from other players. The combo requires four pieces, with two that have no backups in case they're exiled, but the deck has the standard Sliver overflow wincon as well.

Some of this description will include slivers not in the final build of the deck, but I'm including for completeness/people who would like to try something similar. I'll have their card names italicized.

Arbitrarily Large Combo

The final combo relies upon:

These can be easily combined into arbitrarily large numbers of tokens and mana.

Key Elements

Slivers

  1. Mana Acceleration: Manaweft Sliver or Gemhide Sliver need to come out early for mana ramp, which is the primary reason I am considering adding a Demonic Tutor, Worldly Tutor, or other Tutor for lower cost.
  2. Haste: Blur Sliver, Firewake Sliver, Heart Sliver, or Reflex Sliver allow newly played Slivers to be tapped for mana or any other tap effects they have.
  3. Flash: Quick Sliver allows playing at the end of turn of the player just before you and pulling in answers as your opponents play them.
  4. Flying: Galerider Sliver, Pulmonic Sliver, Spinneret Sliver or Winged Sliver give your Slivers Flying (or at least Reach).
  5. Anti-Counter: Root Sliver gives immunity to counters.
  6. Board Clearing: Harmonic Sliver gives "When this permanent enters the battlefield, destroy target artifact or enchantment.", Constricting Sliver temporarily exiles creatures, Necrotic Sliver destroys permanents for a sacrifice and , and Venom Sliver gives death touch.
  7. Poison: Virulent Sliver grants poisonous 1 (Combat damage to a player gives a poison counter).
  8. Card Draw: Dormant Sliver, Opaline Sliver, and Synapse Sliver all give some form of additional draw.
  9. Life Gain: Darkheart Sliver provides life on sacrifice, and Syphon Sliver provides lifelink.
  10. Evasion: Two-Headed Sliver gives Menace, Shadow Sliver gives Shadow, Shifting Sliver gives "can only be blocked by Slivers", Ward Sliver gives protection from any one color, and the flying Slivers above.

Mana Base

As a 5 color deck, the mana base can be tricky. I believe it needs to be skewed to provide more green, as Manaweft Sliver and Gemhide Sliver, the best mana-fixers in the deck, both require . I currently like the full cycle of 10 fetches and shocks, though I'm open to suggestions on the rest.
