You May Love Sliver Overlord If:
- You love Slivers
- You love being able having the right tool for every situation
- You love having no colour restrictions
- You love winnning by differently - or as you please - each game
You May Hate Sliver Overlord If:
- You hate Slivers
- You hate creature based decks
- You hate needing to colour-fix (five colour deck)
- You hate following a similarish strategy every game
Early Game
The early game is where we get the ball out of the shed. We want to set up boardstate for the mid-late game. The deck runs a few tap lands. We want to empty our hands of these first (unless we have a
Sol Ring
for turn one), in order to enable insane plays later on in the game. Next, the priority is ramp - if we have any in our hand. One of the weaknesses of this deck is not having enough mana - for tutoring and playing slivers, or casting our commander again (sigh). If we have no ramp, or time to do it before we can cast our commander we may as well empty our hand of slivers. The most important slivers to play in the early game are ones that offer any kind of protection, such as
Crystalline Sliver
,
Diffusion Sliver
,
Frenetic Sliver
or
Hibernation Sliver
. Other useful slivers to play at this time are;
Manaweft Sliver
/
Gemhide Sliver
,
Heart Sliver
/
Blur Sliver
or
Darkheart Sliver
(May as well gain 3 life in response to a removal spell).
Mid Game
The mid game is where we start shooting hoops. In the mid game we want to make sure our Slivers are protected, and start getting ready for the big swing. We now have a choice. It is critical to get out either
Manaweft Sliver
or
Gemhide Sliver
, as getting alot of mana available is important in this deck. But, do you first want to give your commander and future slivers shroud with
Crystalline Sliver
? This is a choice you must make, to play it safe or play it fast. The best protection you can give your Slivers is indestructible (
Sliver Hivelord
) and shroud (
Crystalline Sliver
). Once our Slivers are sufficiently protected, its time to assemble the pieces for the late game.
The Late Game AKA "The Big Swing"
The late game is where our ball starts going through the hoop, nothing but net. There are many ways to win in this deck, so you can have a lot of fun deciding your opponents last moments as they realise "oh shit all his stuff has shroud and indestructible", and look at their futile
Path to Exile
s and
Damnation
s.
-
- Infect/Poison Counters (
Virulent Sliver
). Infect is nothing to be ashamed of, despite popular opinion and is a valid way to secure those phat W's. For this strategy you will need at least 10 Slivers, as each sliver will only give the player 1 poison counter. Your slivers will need to be unblockable, vie
Shadow Sliver
or
Galerider Sliver
/
Winged Sliver
. I suggest not using this wincon every time if you value your friendship.
-
- Voltron (
Magma Sliver
). Again, a dick move in some people's eyes, voltron is a viable and efficient way of hoarding W's. Slap down
Magma Sliver
, slap down evasion, slap down a few slivers, tap them, one opponent dead. Simple and efficient.
-
- Buffing the Bros (
Sliver Legion
). A nice way to grab a juicy juicy W. Evasion +
Sliver Legion
+ Any other slivers you feel like = big evasive Slivers with random key words.
Other Note Worthy Things To Do
C0MB0$
To spice things up a bit I threw in a couple infinite mana combos.
With infinite coloured mana we can play our commander and then play every sliver in our deck, thus winning through combat damage in the same turn (hastey and all slivers will be 30/30s thanks to
Sliver Legion
). Why not
Deadeye Navigator
? As soon as you play Deadeye the sirens start going off and you get targeted. With these combos, the creatures look like innocent ramp and for the first few games you can pass them off as that - until your play group catches on.
Waa Waa, Why Aren't You Running ...
-
Sliver Queen
; I don't want to go that heavy into the combo side of Slivers and Sliver Queen is another $50+ card.
- OG Duals + Fetches; I like my bank account balance as it is.
-
Mana Vault
, etc; I can buy another deck for that much.
Thank You
Thanks for reading my first ever primer. Feedback is appreciated on both the deck and primer.
