A friend of mine handed me a few copies of Ominous Seas because it didn't quite live up to his expectations. He wanted to see what I'd do with it. I'm going to abuse this card as much possible with wheel effects and then make them one sided. This is still very much a work in progress. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Win Condition

Ominous Seas: Summon sea monsters and go to town. Multiple copies even stack =). Worst case scenario, you can always cycle it.

Wheel Effects

Sleight of Hand

  • Notion Thief - Flash in at the end of your opponents turn, then set up a wheel to draw a new hand (plus theirs) while your opponent is left with one card.
  • Narset, Parter of Veils - Like Notion Thief but cheaper and trades in the surprise factor to search for more wheel effects.
  • Bag of Holding - While not strictly a way to set up a one sided hand swap, but it will give you a hand in reserve to use later. Works fairly well with Jace's Archivist and Dark Deal.

Prepare for the Sea's Vengeance

  • Telling Time/Anticipate - Dig for the answers you'll need.
  • Opt//Sleight of Hand - Doesn't dig as far as Anticipate, but does give you an additional draw to summon a Kraken for Opt. Sleight of Hand digs further, but is at sorcery speed.
  • Engulf the Shore - This deck has enough islands to justify using this card for cheap field removal. The fact that it is at instant speed doesn't hurt either. Your Krakens will usually have more than enough defense to avoid engulfing themselves (what a weird sight that would be) With the number of creatures in this deck, chances are good that your opponent will have more to lose =).
  • Whelming Wave - When you don't have enough islands, but still want to clear the field. Only gets weird if you're playing against similar sea monster tribal and if you are, then rejoice it seems you've found a kindred spirit =).
  • River's Rebuke - The river didn't like that. Emergency completely one sided field wipe.

Sideboard

  • Ashiok, Dream Render: Necessary graveyard hate if emptying your opponent's hand works in their favor.
  • Damping Sphere: To slow down faster/storm/aggro decks.
  • Fog Bank: Quick creature early game that can block for days. More defense against quick aggro decks
  • Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage: Pseudo rack and removes the last card in your opponent's hand. Also serves as an additional win condition if your opponent prepared for Ominous Seas.
  • Archfiend of Ifnir: Pseudo board wipe with the wheel effects. Also a bit of control against tokens.
  • Rapid Hybridization: Cheap instant spot removal. Giving your opponent a 3/3 isn't great, but can still be better than a huge creature and it can be easily removed later with Engulf the Shore.
  • Echoing Truth - Even more token control.

Alternative Win Conditions

And that's "Sleight loss of Hand" for now. The cards in the Maybe Board are alternative win conditions I've tested and/or interchangeable options for cards in the main deck. Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Updates Add

Dusted off this deck recently for some games and remembered why it made everyone groan. It's particularly satisfying when one of them is the one that handed me the Ominous Seas fort his deck in the first place =) . Also found Tegrid is too much of a lightning rod for hate for multiplayer, so i removed her. I also removed Dark Deal from the main deck because Day's Undoing has been just much more worthwhile in the long run. Might look into new tech from more recent sets to see where I can take this deck.
